@Thief: While I'd say that Sega of America's games did more bad than good in the long run, there are a couple of hidden gems on that list. These are the ones I think are noteworthy:

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie (Sanritsu/SIMS / Banpresto)
X-Men 2: Clone Wars (Headgames / Zono Incorporated)

You left out X-Men 1... but yeah, I too am very impressed by how many great titles we got out of Sega of America. And I'm really picky about Western made games. So me saying this means quite a bit.

I really enjoyed the two times I rented Taz-Mania back in the day. Even thought I couldn't make it past that mine-cart ride. Should give it another go one of these days...

Am also looking toward Taz in Escape from Mars + that Gargoyles. Both games that I sadly missed out on in my youth.


EDIT - oh, and can't forget Chakan. Otherwise Kollision won't forgive me, lol. Hear great things about this one. Just need to get my balls in check for this one. >_>;;

Mark Cerny said he moved back to the US just as they had started developing Sonic 1. That would be sometime in 1990. Dick Tracy was released in 1990, though I don't know what part of the year. It's possible that Mark Cerny worked on the game at Sega of Japan. Also, Sega Technical Institute didn't exist yet.

Yeah, development on Sonic probably started right after Naka had finished Ghouls 'n Ghosts, so that'd be late '89.

Oh, so that's why Crystal's Pony Tale is mentioned. :D OK, I'll give this game a try today.

The Coop mentioned it a few years ago. It is a really good game for younger kids. The one issue it has is that it runs at 30 fps but in every other regard it is pretty much as good as it gets.

I found this list of every game's release date by year, but it has no source. Has anyone seen it before?

Hmm, seems really specific. I'd be intrigued to know the source as well.

It's definitely not perfect, but it's as close as I'm able to make it with the information I have available. If there's anybody out there with personal experience with buying Genesis games on release day or maybe even have old receipts or something, that might be helpful. I don't know of a European list, but Sega's Japanese site lists all Japanese releases, with the day of release for all games -- they kept good records of that stuff in Japan, unlike anywhere else.

I still think Comix Zone is one of the best games ever made. It was (and is) a fantastic and interesting game to play with so many alternate routes.

STI in terms of the games they made sometimes reminds me of an earlier smilebit.

That list is not bad. But I've found stuff like Revenge of Shinobi actually had an earlier release date than January. But I've researched that myself in the past. And EGM has alternate dates for its release. One pre holiday and one Jan. I remember getting mine in October. Overal that list is pretty good. As good as anyone can hope for at any rate.

If you can't read Japanese then Google Translate or Chrome (the browser) does a decent job. I'm working on doing a full conversion of the Mega-CD information for my own personal use and can probably share it later on if people are interested.
