expensive ass saturn games? por que?

i traded a 1 day old used copy of madden 09 for a saturn about a year ago but i couldnt ever find any good games(sim city 2000, daytona usa, nba live 97, and nfl 97 was all i could find) until last weekend when i found a mint condition nights into dreams for 6.95$ and a 3d remote for 9.95 and it got me excited about collecting for the saturn again until i decided to shop for a few quality games online at amazon and here is what i found:

dragon force-70$
shining force 3-70$
burning rangers-75$
guardian heroes-50$
house of the dead-70$
sonic jam-65$

wtf!!!

why are they so expensive? which ones listed are worth the money asked for and which ones not even close? i really like arcade shooters to play with my son and ive been eye balling hod for quite some time but is it worth 70$? ive thought about just getting the cheaper dreamcast hod 2 but the only light guns that work with it is the mad catz dreamblasters which look unacceptably retarded and are alot more expensive than the saturn light gun,
also does anybody know of any really good games for the saturn that average under the 20 or 30$ price tag?

Also, I'd buy that Shining Force III for $70 any day of the week. Lol. If it's Mint CIB, then it's a bargain. ;)

On the import front, there's also Radiant Silvergun and a number of great Shmups that will demand a $200 price.

I got a Sega Saturn that came with a copy of Sonic Jam inside, I'm still trying to find a box and manual for it.

Your guys prices are kind of off as well. They're more like:

Panzer Dragoon Saga: $140 (My Local game store which is basically the South Jersey counterpart of Digital Press sold this for $140, it might be a little low, but $200 is a gross overstatement)
Burning Rangers: $60 (I just paid this for a CIB copy off of someone on Digital Press)
Guardian Heroes: $75 (Paying this for a CIB copy on Digital Press)
Sonic Jam: $60
Dragon Force: $70

Oh, and don't forget Shining Force III, that goes for about $100.

i left out panzer dragoon saga on purpose because i thought it was like a 5 disc long game so i figured it was probobly reasonable asking price for such a "set" especially with all the discs, case, and instruction booklet included.
damn! 200 is a bit much and i was really looking forward to radiant silvergun ive heard alot about it. what about castlevania symphony of the night? how much is an imported copy of that gonna run me?

I haven't been able to even find a price on Castlevania SOTN for Saturn, it seems to be fairly hard to find here in the states. But it's got it's downs compared to the Playstation version. Although it has Richter from the start and Maria and two exclusive levels, the coding for the game is poor. Loading times are a little longer, sprites are distorted, transparency effects are gone, and sometimes there's slowdown. They're all minor, but buggy problems.

You're better off getting the Playstation version. Unless you're like me and love the Saturn and don't feel like hooking up the Playstation ;). Maybe one of these days I'll find SOTN for Saturn.

Yeah, I may have gone overboard with PDS. $140 sounds about right. and yes, of course, SFIII is definitely above $100.

Very few of the expensive Saturn titles are 'rare' but are always in very high demand, meaning that prices are as hight as people are willing to pay for them.

You CAN find most of the titles you listed cheaper, house of the dead is never worth $70 in a million years except to a collector, it's a diabolical port.
Sonic Jam is also hidiously overpriced, I would never pay that sort of money for it.

Panzer Dragoon Saga is worth every last penny of it's asking price, if there were a gaming dictionary under 'Epic' it would simply say:

Epic –adjective -noun
- 'see panzer dragoon saga'

ive heard alot of people say the saturn version is supreme to the ps1 version including gametrailers.com in one of there countdown videos or something, but ive also read that the main man behind the development truly despises the saturn port much like hideo kojima dislikes the nes port of the original metal gear(which totally fails in comparison to the original msx port which is on the bonus disc of metal gear solid 3:subsistance)

Lol. I wouldn't be surprised if it was superior to the PS1 version. After all, the Saturn was the best platform for 2D titles.

as long as i can blast zombies with the light gun i dont think it will matter much, ill be buying it primarily to play with my 5 year old son, and neither of us have ever played the original in the arcades. but much thanks for the link now what all do i need to play these games on my american saturn(in english)?

Yeah, House of the Dead definitely isn't worth it's US price. The game looks terrible compared to the arcade, and the arcade game isn't all that impressive IMO. The Virtua Cop series is much cheaper and much more fun IMO.

If you want to play PAL or Japanese Saturn games, just get one of these:

but the action replay cart reminds me to ask about the streetfighter alpha series. which is the way to go with those games? ive heard of alot of different street fighter games on the saturn aside from the alpha games isnt there a whole street fighter vs x-men/marvel or something that requires that ram cart? gimme the rundown on 2d fighting games on the saturn and im only interested enough to keep it domestic, no imports.

You won't get far if you're staying domestic on the Street Fighter games. Domestic, you've only got:

X-Men Children of the Atom
Marvel Super Heroes
Street Fighter Alpha
Street Fighter Alpha 2
Street Fighter Collection (which contains 2 versions of Street Fighter 2 alongside Street Fighter Alpha 2 Gold)
Darkstalkers

Compared to the import offerings, the games feel very outdated. Alpha and Alpha 2 aren't worth playing since Street Fighter Zero 3 is on Saturn (in Japan, but it's expensive, $60ish), and Marvel Super Heroes I've heard is a very slow-paced game. Marvel Super Heroes US is especially crippled compared to the Japanese one since unlike in Japan, we didn't get the 4MB cart that goes with Marvel Super Heroes. X-Men Children of the Atom is also pretty slow-paced, but it's decent enough.

With imports there is:

X-Men Vs. Street Fighter
Marvel Super Heroes Vs. Street Fighter
Street Fighter Zero 3 (AKA Alpha 3)
Vampire Savior

Those four games alone outclass all the domestic releases frankly. They all play a LOT better, especially because they utilize the 4MB Ram cart are are a lot more fun overall If you're staying domestic strictly, I'd go with Street Fighter Collection and Darkstalkers. The rest really aren't worth getting.
