Hey, the Saturn's my favorite system. Happy to help though :)
Of the ones you listed Baloo, Dragon Force and Guardian Heroes are worth the prices you had them at. DF is simply a blast to play over and over, and GH is a fun brawler. And yes, Panzer Dragoon Saga is worth it. The game is great in so many ways, that a follow up was never made is a crime.
And folks, let show more love to the insanity of prices for the likes of Radiant Silvergun, Stellar Assault SS, Hyper Duel, Dungeons & Dragons Collection, Blast Wind, Thunder Force V Special Pack, and other Japanese Saturn imports that fetch $100-$200+ with alarming regularity.
When did Sonic Jam get so expensive? I remember it being worth like $20. In 2001, I got it for five bucks and two VMUs.
Forget Amazon. Everything sells for ridiculous amounts that no one should pay for. That why I sell there. :)
I have no idea. In terms of completed listings, There's a copy that went for $56 on eBay by itself, but then there's one that went with a copy of Sonic R for $26, and another one with 3D Blast and Sonic R that went for $31. And all the BINs are listed at $50-65 dollars. So pricing Sonic Jam won't be an easy task.
Makes me wish I had a box and manual with my copy...
Dragon Force is worth $70.
Panzer Dragoon Saga isn't worth $50.
I'll 2nd this recommendation.
The Action replay is worth it's weight in gaming gold.
In addition to playing import Saturn games, it doubles as a memory card as well.
And Dragon Force is without a doubt worth $70.
It's my favorite Saturn game, and in my top 5 of all time.
Also, if you like Shining Force on the Genesis definitely pick up Shining Force III for the Saturn, it's totally worth the $70.
Also seek out Shining the Holy Ark. I'm not a big RPG guy at all, and this game is EXCELLENT.
If you remotely like dungeon crawlers this is a must.
Think Shining in the Darkness on steroids. (goes for between $30-40 on Ebay; totally worth it)
Astal- one of the most stunningly beautiful 2D side scrollers I've ever seen, and it's a fun play through as well. (goes for about $20 on Ebay)
***Select Saturn games are so valuable because they are such high quality that people don't want to give them up. Games like SFIII & PDS had rather small print runs so there's just not enough to meet the demand.
I really want to love my Saturn. I really do. But why oh why do all the best games have to be so expensive (or so only in Japan) :(
So, as for recommended Saturn games that aren't too expensive, there's Panzer Dragoon, Panzer Dragoon Zwei, Astal, Shining the Holy Ark... what else? And is there some reliable place other than eBay to find better deals? Because just about every Saturn game on eBay is listed as Buy it Now, and they all revolve around the same prices.
And as for imports, which games are still completely playable with Japanese text? As in, I don't really have to be able to read what's on the screen to get what's going on in the game?
Some great imports:
X-men Vs. Street Fighter
Marvel Super Heroes Vs. Street Fighter
Street Fighter Zero 3
Metal Slug
Radiant Silvergun
Stellar Assault
The best Saturn import games (like some of the ones I just mentioned) are extremely expensive though. Radiant Silvergun alone goes for $140-180 alone.
If some of these prices shock you, don't ever try to buy a copy of Daytona USA CCE NetLink Edition! Good thing I bought my copy back in the day....
Vampire Savior's good and it's cheap too. You'll need a 4meg action replay cart though.
Whew I'm glad I bought all my Saturn games 5 to 10 years ago! They were expensive as such back then as well, but patience and luck can score you a good deal as I rarely spent over $40 on those big games.
House of the Dead get the import version. It's common and goes for about $10. There's not much text to speak of anyway.
