Wow... that's horrid. Sounds like they completely botched the Port or didn't know how to program for shit. 15 FPS with Dooms' engine using the HP of the Saturn = inexcusible.

But the Japanese release has a smoother frame rate with no slowdown or choppiness, and includes the deathmatch mode.

Hence why I want to get that one.

    Bump!

Regarding the Japanese release, how good is the improved frame rate compared to the Western release? I can deal with Japanese texts (it's a shooter, it won't really matter), I just really want to know if the Jap SAT version really is worth getting over the UK/US one.

    Cheers!

Just get the ps1 version.....why mess with this garbage version.

Also the jap version is only slightly better in terms of speed and FPS. Not a significant difference.

The Doom video I linked you to recently has the Jpn Saturn version in it. It is a fairly consistent 20FPS, not as fast as Doom 32X or PS1, but not nearly as bad as the slideshow US Saturn release.

    -edit-

I forgot that I posted the first few levels on Youtube when I got the game.

The people who played it told me that it runs between 10-15 frames per second.

That's the US version, and at times it runs even worse than that from what I've seen.

I really would love to see someone report DOOM to the Saturn. Both official ports are just so insulting to the Hardware.

^ This will especially be true after Chilly finishes the source port of Dos Doom to the 32X and/or 32X CD.

The frame rate drops to about 5 FPS in some levels of Saturn doom 2 according to some sources.

And again I believe you will find that that is for the US version. The JP version is a tad bit better as sheath has stated.

The JP version is better, but it's still not as good as the PSX port, and basically identical in content, so I still see no reason to bother. I'm all in favor of "when in doubt, choose Sega", but there's no doubt in this case.

If I remember correctly it does have an Engrish ending, that's gotta be worth a few laughs.

I already own the PS1 version. I like collecting multiple versions of the same game is all.

@Sheath: Thanks for posting those gameplay vids. Judging by the last one, I can see the game is slower, but it still looks playable.

So yeah, I'm getting the JAP version then. Thanks to everyone!
