What about the Open 'Beats of Rage' modding community?

I wouldn't lump games in the same categories as movies so I don't know how it could hurt SoR. I mean with a movie sequel/remake you risk altering the story and characters to an extent that the original material is debased ala Star Wars. Unless it's an RPG or something, I don't think sequels have much of an impact if any on the original games. I mean if Streets of Rage 4 was released and was horrible, would it really deter your enjoyment of the Genesis games in any way? The series is all but dead at this point(homebrew community and Japan only cell phone remake of SoR1 aside), so why not?

If Sega does it, I hope that it isn't something like Fighting Force, but like Dynamite Deka Hopefully with a Segata Sanshiro costume included like in the Sega Ages version of the game

and then it turns out Shiva has become the new boss, but its secretly Mr X who's pulling the punches from cyberspace!
because right at the end of SOR3 he uploaded himself to an early version of the Internet and has existed there ever since!

    Thats what you would get.
Are you kidding? I would play the shit out of a grindhouse-y, sweary, tongue-in-cheeky Streets of Rage. The atmosphere worked like a charm in the most recent House of the Dead game.

I mean, a beat-em-up that lovingly satirises 90's pop-culture as seen through sidescrolling beat-em-ups eyes' would be awesome.

Fucking "Flicky" gets ported all the time!

At least Capcom had the balls the make those collections, and 2 has some awesome beat-em-up games included. Even "Quiz and Dragons" was fun!

Especially the Capcom Quiz version that was included as a bonus. It even has Raul Julia in it (as the correct answer one of the questions, that is)!

Hell Sega could license that Streets of Rage Remake and sale it as an XBLA and a PSN game. If that game does well then we should get a brand new SoR game.

They should put all 3 in one remake with updated sprites. It won't be 1/2/3 just one game and 3 continues

I'm sure if in the slight chance it did get remade sega would bastardize it somehow (slap the SOR name and characters on some game engine like Max Pain would be my guess), but if they do I will simply not buy it, so signing doesn't hurt. On the other hand, they might just maybe get it right. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut every once in a while. 3D graphics with 2D gameplay, expanded moves, weapons etc. I'm actually really surprised they haven't remade it yet.
