Default Issues with controller after region/60hz mod

Hey guys, just wondering if you have any ideas. A friend of mine is just after modding my EU Megadrive mark II.

He used this guide and as far as I know has done this mod many times before - http://www.mmmonkey.co.uk/console/sega/md2switches.htm

Just got it home, booted it up and the language/60hz switches work great.

There is an issue with the player 1 controller though. On a 6 button Megadrive controller, D pad right and the B button won't work.

However, they will work if I hold them both down at the same time.

All the rest of the buttons work perfectly.

The only other controller I have here for the console is an official three button arcade stick. It goes a bit mental. I can move forward, but the character will keep jumping (As if it's automatically triggering the B button). Sometimes this happens if I duck as well.

He thought maybe the lifted leg on the processor was touching one of the others..I've checked though and it's fine.

Check the solder points for the P1 controller connector, on a Model 2 they can sometimes come loose if you so much as look at them funnily.

Did you come up with a solution o1s1n?

This same thing happened to me, controller port 1 started acting up after modding. I have resoldered connections, checked connectivity, tried jumper wires etc. and came to conclusion that I must have discharged static electricity and broken something permanently.

Do NOT lift pins when doing region mods... cut a trace and solder on the trace, much less hassle and much safer also.

    Cheers for the help guys

TmEE - You're right, that's a much better way of doing it. I have a few MD v1s here that I want to try and mod. Will do it that way instead.

As for my own console, it's a weird one. I left it for a week, then put it back together as the guy wanted to give it a look over and see what went wrong.

When I reassembled it, I didn't put the sheilding screws in as tightly as I knew he'd be taking them out again pretty soon.

Thought I might as well give Streets of Rage 2 a go before I sent it back to him, just use the player 2 controller port.

But what do you know, port 1 now works perfectly

So everything is now perfect and I have absolutely no idea how. Could the shielding have maybe been pushing down on the ports?
