BTW does the Genesis check for a ROM header like the Master System does?
The only game I tried out of the ones you listed was air rescue but it works fine on my model 1 genesis. unfortunately I dont have a model 2 otherwise id test it on there also. I get sprite glitches on quite a few sms games, but I heard somewhere that the model 2 genesis doesn't have this problem.

Thanks very much for your reply. Interesting that it's working for you; I've tried two different ROMs now with no luck so far. Could I ask what firmware/OS version you're running?

Bad news again, my everdrive isn't working

I'd tried many times and I couldn't got work again.

What I could do? I cleaned the slot contacts in my 2 consoles (Model 1 Genesis and Model 2 Japanese Megadrive) and the cartridge with isopropyl alcohol without results.

Please help me! the console only shows the "Sega License" boot screen and then nothing.

I put a original cartridge (NBA Jam T.E.) and it works perfect in both consoles.

@KrikZZ: There's no warranty? I can send you back my everdrive to Ukraine for repair with some bucks for service and shipping. Check my experience, many times I had the same problem (even in the earliest uses suffered the same problems). Maybe the cartridge have some manufacture defect, because don't shows damage and I've also carefully and used properly

    Thanks in advice

    running os11 and firmware 8

I tested those other games you listed. they all worked, but the controller didn't work properly in penguin land.

damn, seems like i have some bug in os V13, SMS games will work fine on OS10, may be on 11 or 12. just downgrade your OS.
genesis not check header, only OS check TMR SEGA ($7ff0, 8 bytes) for detect sms rom

of course you can send cart back to me for repaur and i will repair cart and send back for free. some carts have this problem because sega cart shell has not enought space for SMS pause button, so PCB is little twisted in shell, especially if screw strongly tighten. in this case some pin can be unsoldered from one of two chips on face side of cart. i remove SMS pause for last carts by this reason. just mail me on biokrik@gmail.com and i will give my shipping address.

I went to try OS10, but saw that you had put up OS14, and that fixed the problem! Just about every SMS game I've tried works now, including imports. I think the only ones that didn't were all Korean unlicensed/pirate games (and some of those will never work on a Mega Drive since they use TMS9918). Thanks so much, that was really fast!

This Everdrive is fantastic, BTW. I tried a ton of 32X games last night, and all of them worked perfectly. My girlfriend and I had a good laugh at Virtua Hamster. I'm also really impressed that all the menus can still be navigated using a Master System controller; that's a very nice touch.

One fix you need to look into is setting the save ram mode for games. You set the wrong mode for Wolf32X - it is a 32X game that uses the save ram in the "normal" manner of games larger than 2MB: setting and clearing the bit to enable/disable the save ram. It seems that when you run Wolf32X on the Everdrive right now, it always enables the save ram instead of putting it in the switchable mode. So right now you have to disable the save ram to get Wolf32X working on the Everdrive.

It turns out that most of the pirate games I tried that didn't work use the TMS9918 video mode, so they'll never work on Mega Drive. There are four exceptions, though. Here's what I found:

Testing Korean pirate/unlicensed SMS games on the Everdrive (OS 14)

    Works fine:
    Agigongnyong Dooly / Dinosaur Dooley
    Gaegujangi Ggachi (aka Gaegujangi Kkachi)
    Suho Cheonsa (aka Suho Jeonsa)
    Super Boy 4
    Toto World 3

Starts, but has massive graphic/sound glitches:
    Jang Pung II
    Jang Pung 3
    Sangokushi 3

Didn't work at all, don't know why:
    Dallyeora Pigu-Wang

Games that use TMS9918 mode and will never work with Mega Drive; all go to black screen on startup:
    Dr. Hello*
    FA Tetris
    Flashpoint
    Penguin Adventure
    Street Master
    Super Boy II*
    The Three Dragon Story*
    Wonsiin*

*these games play music, but the screen stays black

So besides the TMS9918 games that will never work on the MD, the only ones that aren't working are Dallyeora Pigu-Wang, Jang Pung II, Jang Pung 3, and Sangokushi 3.

Hey Krikzz, did you ever add in FM support for the SMS? I would think that it would require a whole new layout, but I just figured I'd ask. Thanks!!!

Oh, so homebrew less the 3MB but bigger than 2MB should be padded to three. I'll have to add that to the makefile.

I asked him before. Might implement it one day. The cost alone is a good reason not to. However, adding sms FM chip to the genesis could be a whole knew project.
