Omp: one question: Would I prefer to buy 240p 3.5" lcd rather than 480p? The megadrive I guess is 280p so is it better to buy one with this resolution or is it same to buy 480p and it will still output the gfx correct?

Be true to yourself. GFX doesn't matter, the game does. If you are intrested to donate one NTSC Genesis for hardware testing purposes, please pm me.

240p capable is the key, the 2nd monitor I tried (we will call it the deal extreme style clone), didn't like 240p (ie-mega drive) but was fine hooked up to a dvd player.

Tmee what are you up to now? I see you have changed the 68000 processor, is that for better overclock etc? What is done to the 315-5700 chip, sms mode and is the other for 32x stuff?

He said that hitachi 68000 prosessor gives 1hour more battery lifetime.

So I am about to mod my nomad rechargebale battery pack. How ever I have some problems about knowledge of Li-ion battery packs and how to build them.

So does this configuration provide the most Ampers/h for Nomad as this is the biggest possible setup for the rechargeable battery pack?

    Edit:
It seems that I need lipo charger in order to charge this kind of battery pack. also all the 3 cell ends need their own balance cable.

Tiido....why did you swap out the 68k chip and then rotate it? And remove the oscillator? And rewire some pins on the asic chip?

First one has been answered all ready, it gives 1hour more battery time and he firstly installed it wrong way and forgot the first pic still into the thread. He has oscillator board separately to provide ntsc and pal frequency. Lastly the wires are virtual racing and 32x support cables.

All Nomads are NTSC color only. If you use a composite or s-video based replacement LCD, then 50hz mode requires a color fix.

Wait virtua racing and 32x fix? So I guess this means tiido also knows how to get them going on the genesis 3. Those're some awesome mods.

I finally bought my Nomad LCD mod gear after 2 years of thinking. Well bought this one: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3-5-TFT-Ca...item43b14f7b80

    Key features for me were:
    1. Power consumption: 0.53W
    2. Resolution 320*240

Other type monitors seemed to use 2-3Watts so I am saving a lot power with this monitor. Also the other usually supported 640*480 witch is not typical Mega Drive resolution.

Also since I am a crazy modder, I bought from alibaba Sanyo 1600mAH li-ion 18500 model types height 50cm to be accurate 49.5mm and width 18 which is exactly same size than normal rechargeable batteries in Nomad rechargeable battery. But because there is not equivalent height size Li-ions than in Sega's battery I am going to model 4 of them side by side making one bigger unit sized 50mm*70mm and packaging them to fit nicely into the old shell by editing some of the inner side plastics.

The battery in theory is capable to give 7.4v 3200mAH in 2S2P configuration which is more than Sony camcorder battery is able to achieve. Also while the most best 18650 li-ion cell by Panasonic has 3200mAH capacity and I could have produced similar battery than Sony camcorder with 2 Li-ion 18650 batteries but then my 2S2P configuration will be more durable in longer life span which is main advantage of series and parallel battery packs. I am also modding inside new controller board that balance charges the battery and you can run it 9V power source meaning you can use default SEGA power brick to be able to recharge them. The normal charging current with Li-ion cell is about 220mA which then multiplied with 2 which is 440mA while Sega Genesis power brick has 880-1000 mA. Sega's brick will be very sufficient enough to provide extra amps for quicker charging.

I just bought a new 9v 1900mA adapter for my Nomad. This will provide enough juice to play in same time while charging li-ion battery:

Anymore waiting my components to arrive to get to actual modding.

About my li-ion battery mod, here is schematic for it:

Once I get my hands to the controller board, I will look where I get my LED output from the board to get my Battery is full LED to work as in original Nomad battery. I think there is diode/mosfet system that controls where current is moved or blocked and then the led should go there and suddenly start to shine when current doesn't flow anymore to the battery.
