Is anyone here a Dirty Pair fan? I bought the OVA series in September and it was amazing. Everything good about anime is contained in those 10 episodes. I want to buy the TV series, but it's not dubbed which is disappointing because the dub in the OVA was excellent.

No, it's unbiased analysis. The only fanboyism is people who claim that Hyperstone Heist and Bloodlines are actually as good as their SNES counterparts.

Magnetic Rose from that just amazed me on so many levels http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RJELF0XGhSY

Great animation and a very eerie setting
Memories is a pretty cool series of shorts, but you're right about this being the strongest of them. Though I still always like to watch Stink Bomb whenever I want to get a laugh.

They should have used hardcore porn... some nice tentacle porn REALLY would have sent the Zentradi fleeing.

Anywho, the Macross sequel series were much the same... slight bits I'd rather fast forward through, but still great to watch.

I have the OVA series, as well as the original Japanese manga. I also like the newer "American" version that ran for a while - I have those comics. Too bad they didn't make a cartoon from those...

The Dirty Pair OAVs are the next thing I'm planning to buy along with the movie set. I would have gotten them last week, but decided to make a house payment instead.

I've seen Memories, but can't remember much about them except an opera singer on a space station.

You guys should watch Battle Royal Highschool. Not the new Battle Royal, but the one AnimEgo put out over fifteen years ago. The "reconstruct your girlfriend" scene is epic.

I got the new Berserk movie over the holiday and loved it, the production values on the whole thing are phenomenal. This movie is basically a retelling of the first 1/3 of the series though, so that might impact your enjoyment if you're looking for something new.

I'm working through Nadia still now, I stalled about halfway through and need to pick it back up and finish.

Memories was pretty awesome. Hope a blu-ray of that gets released at some point.

Anyways for a shorter series, I'd highly recommend Baccano! Its a 1920-30s gangster action/drama/comedy thing that's actully a bit light on the Anime tropes. If you had told me Tarantino had something to do with this, i'd have totaly believed you. It is a bit conveluted to follow because the story isn't told linearly, and there are a lot of characters for a show this short (13 episodes and three 30 min OVAs. There are like 15 pretty important characters). The whole thing is pretty frenetic, though I wouldn't say it ever feels rushed. Also, the show has a STELLAR English dub and translation. This show is just hands down way better in English (for eample: use of Japanese honrifics don't make a lot of sense in a Chicago 1920s gangster drama. The subtitled version is a straight translation, the dub is a localization and the woman who headed the localization did a good job of including period slang and accents).

I can not praise this show highly enough.

I just watched the new CG Appleseed. Man what a turd that was. The old OAV was ten times better, and even it wasn't that great. I think Shinji Aramaki is a good director, but he really needs to team up with a decent writer. I wish Appleseed could get the same treatment as GITS Stand Alone Complex. That would be awesome.

I LOVE Nadia. I think it's easily one of the best series' I'd seen in a long time!
Just a word of warning: after the halfway point is some filler, but don't let that deter you, because the series gets even MORE awesome after all that passes

Nadia is great, and yeah, try to disregard the filler.

I thought some of the filler in Nadia was a lot of fun. The series was really hampered to me, though, because Nadia is such a constantly whinny little bitch through 90% of it. Then there's also the fact that the new dub gave Jon that ridiculous fake accent. I hope ADV gets hate mail for an eternity for that.

I just bought a few beast wars II anime vhs's today for $1 each. I've been wanting to watch this series since I found out about it in the late 90s but it's almost impossible to get a hold of the episodes since they were only available in japan. the only way to get them in the us was through unofficial fansubbed videos in the late 90s.

so far I like it a lot better then the american 3d beast wars show from the mid 90s. I've waited about 14 years to finally be able to watch a few episodes of beast wars II, I only have 9 episodes out of 43 though. after watching dvd's for the past 11 years it's a bit painful to see how bad the quality of worn out vhs tapes is.
