The Big-O, I love that one. LOVE the art style.

I recently watched a series called Ghost Hunt. THAT one is very interesting: three or four episodes take up a whole case, where the cast investigates reported paranormal activity. One of the cases, The Bloodstained Labyrinth, is nightmare inducing. No joke.

I'll mostly agree with you on Ys. The first half is pretty good, the second half (where they make Adol all angsty) is not so good. Its a little jarring considering Adol generally gets played up as a pretty decisive hero. Still, its certainly watchable, and a nice adaption of the first 2 games. Also, yeah, is fine whether you've played the games or not. To be fair I don't expect picture perfect adaptions ans its certainly one of the better video game to anime adaptions. Also, the menu screen on the DVD is a riot.

Might have to look into Ghost Hunt, that sounds like it might be pretty good.

Ghost Hunt does sound like fun. I'll have to check that one out too maybe.

It's rather good. Don't mix up Ghost Hunt with Ghost Hound - they're VERY different series! Both are rather good, but in completely different ways. Ghost Hunt is a bit more traditional, while Ghost Hound is rather unorthodox.

I just found out about this yesterday. I really want to see it now.

No, it's unbiased analysis. The only fanboyism is people who claim that Hyperstone Heist and Bloodlines are actually as good as their SNES counterparts.

Another good one (that's just recently been added to Netflix) is Requiem from the Darkness. Unique art style with lots of flat blacks for shading and generally stark color schemes.

It's a horror series, similar to Tales from the Crypt.

The virtua fighter anime was pretty good. unfortunately only the first 2 seasons made it over here and season 3 was never released in english because it didn't sell that well.

One I recently heard about that I haven't started watching yet is "Aoi Sekai no Chushin de".
It's a very odd concept I must say.

The whole series is a re-imagining of the Sega vs Nintendo console wars as a war between the Segua Kingdom and Ninterudo Empire.

It contains characters that's supposed to represent for example Tetris, Sonic, Tails, Nei from Phantasy Star, Mario, Yoshi and Link.

I'm a fan of anime but in no ways I'm an expert. what do you generally advice me? I liked alot ghost in the shell, especially the series and I liked a lot nausica of the valley of the wind, although I liked other studio ghibli movies, as well I didn;'t like them as much as nausicaa. one of my favorites is grave of the fireflies too, but that one is jard to see a 2nd time for me

akira I liked a lot except for the ending, which is a terrible mess. in general I really dislike action or fighting in any movies. I like them to be very storyline based. I mostly like cyberpunk genre's, but also others

what would you advice me to check out?

Pointed to most of these earlier as I love cyberpunk anime mostly too.
Especially the older ones, the styles are just getting too stylized over time.

    > Battle Angel Alita
Short adaption of the manga of the same name, follows a cyborg who has been rebuilt from parts found on the scrapheap where they now live.
    > Armitage III
Great anime that's sadly often overlooked, follows two individuals in a future where people hunt down robots who start becoming too human, very bladerunner'esque.
    > Key the Metal Idol
Interesting little story about a robot girl who's creator dies and she then sets out on a quest to become human. Reminds me of a more cyberpunk'ish Edward Scissorhands.
    > Neo Tokyo
Collection of 3 short stories made by different directors. Similar to 'Memories', but set more distinctively in a cyberpunk setting.
    > Memories
Collection of 3 short stories made by different directors. Very different stories, a very funny one, a very artsy/propaganda'ish one and a very eerie one (shown in example).
    > SELain
One of my all-time favorites. Follows a girl whom learns of what computers can create and manipulate,
she encounters many supernatural phenomenons along the way as well as learns about her existence in the world.

    > Dominion Tank Police & New Dominion Tank Police
Made by the original creator of Appleseed and Ghost in the Shell (Masamune Shirow), this one is a bit more comical in execution, but still a great little classic,
follows a brutal police squad who uses tanks. Following one in particular which probably inspired the Metal Slug.

    > Patlabor: the Movie 1 & 2
Really well made movies about a future where exo suits and industrial mechs are the norm,
involves stuff like cyber-terrorism and somehow manages to focus a lot on the characters and their development instead of pure action, great stuff.

Cyber City Oedo sounds right up you're alley. It's one of my favorite OAV series and you can get the complete collection for a song off ebay.

    Also:
    Dagger of Kamui
    A.D. Police
    Ninja Scroll
(there is a movie and TV series. I never watched the series, but the movie came out first and is awesome)

I don't really have anything to recommend that doesn't have action or fighting, but the ones I mentioned above are really story driven and don't seem to me any more violent than Ghost in the Shell.

Here's a few other non violent movies I liked:

    Tokyo Godfathers
The Girl Who Leapt Through Time
    Summer Wars
    The Cat Returns
Howl's Moving Castle <--one of my favorites

    Just finished Blood+.

What an awesome 4 season series. Wrapped up nicely, and very fitting too. Out of all anime I have seen, it was the most emotional too.
Customized Sega Genesis Model 1 - VA3. Energy efficient with buck converters instead of LM7805's.

Samurai 7 is drawing to a close on Toonami. I have to say that it's got to be the best modern anime that I've seen. I'd recommend that anyone watch it. Does anyone around here watch much classic stuff? That's what I'm really into. I wish that Toonami would have the balls to air a show from the 80s. Right now the oldest show on the lineup is Cowboy Bebop. They're probably afraid no one would watch something from the 80s because it looks too old.

Samurai 7 was good until they finished the battle in the village. At that point, the original story they worked from was done and they had to make the rest up, meaning hack studio writers churning out the usual drek. Seriously, the last quarter of the series can be skipped and leave you with a better opinion of the series. It's no wonder Samurai 7 was roundly denounced by virtually every critic when it first aired. The ending episodes are so bad, you forget about how good the rest was. Not quite as bad as Dragonball GT, but still bad studio filler level (maybe about like the Bount Arc of Bleach bad).
