Well, yeah, from what I know they released an unfinished prototype and gained a few days. Japan got the final version three days later.

That doesn't change the fact that they renamed the evil guy. I mean if they renamed Sonic to something like "Captain Blue Fart" but released the game two years earlier it wouldn't change the fact that the character's name was Sonic and not Captain Blue Fart.

In Sonic Adventure 1 they did it the best.
He calls himself Dr. Robotnik, and Sonic calls him "a giant talking Egg" and "Eggman."

Yes, but the character in the OVA/Movie is most obviously not Robotnik.

But his name is and always was Eggman. He only was called 'Robotnik' in SOA's Sonic manual. They turned him into a Russian because we all know that Russians are EVIL!

If you look into the back story (at least from the comic series -ca 1993), he was a beevolent Scientist working to better the world until an accedent that turned him evil. (and caused him to reverse his last name -Kintobor) I'mnot going into details as it get a bit silly. (but the AoSTH show also bough into it, or at least implied to on several occasions including the first episode)

Yeah, but that still makes no sense: why would HE start calling himself by a mocking nickname? (even if the "good" characters referred to him as such) It's stupid...
At least the character design and voice acting was menacing enough in the SA games to overcome that somewhat. (the overall english voice cast in SA2 is the best in any of the games IMO, even if the acting itsself is weak at times, the voices at least fit -better than SA1 even in the cases were the same actors were used -and better than the 4kids actors... Now including the DiC animated shows, that's another matter)

Yeah, I saw that one on Sonic Retro about a month ago. Apparently in that promo comic we also learn that Sonic becomes blue due to an accident when a treadmill exploded after Sonic broke the sound barrier, due to (according to SR) the Cobalt Effect (Sonic the Comic's version also had this, but with a circular rotating tube instead of a treadmill). Also, Sonic says "Rrrrrico... suave!"

This is why Sega should be making Sonic 4's subtitle "Kintobar's Revenge!"

SEGA of Japan shutting down SoA's Dr. Robotnik name and forcing Eggman down us westerners throats would be like CAPCOM relasing SF4 with M. Bison as Vega, Vega as Balrog, and Balrog as M. Bison.

and then their excuse would be the same excuse said about Eggman, well Vega was always Vega, etc.

Well that's BS actually though.

Because Capcom should do that, and Sega should be forcing Robotnik down Japan's throat.

We all think of Vega as this lame girly name because of who it's associated with in America, when it's actually a very powerful name given to the boss of SF2 and Sony's best TV's.

I call the Street Fighter characters their japanese names for a reason.

Vega = a powerful psycho crush
Mike Bison = a Mike Tyson ripoff boxer (who's Crazy Buffalo super is clearly another connection to his real name)
Balrog = a ballerina gay ass fairy who most people thought was the "other girl" in the original SF2.

This book is partly about the Kintobor / Robotnik thing, I used to think it was awesome. Haven't read it since the 90s probably, but it probably still is - glorified (albeit licensed) fan fiction or not.

Of course, none of this changes the fact that Eggman was the "proper" name, or that Robotnik is better.

Robotnik fits better too - Sonic, Robotnik, Badnik.
