Controls aside, the DS remake of Mario 64 is better...

Oh thats good to hear...I have it here in front of me on this AceKard thing...

Maybe I'll give it a go, what do you mean "control" though, touch screen? I hope not...

I really wanted to play Dementium, Moon, and Metroid, but I just cant get the grasp of moving the stylus around while shooting/interacting...

No, I play it using the D-pad. It really needs an analog stick, though. It's not as fun without one...

I've played Moon and Metroid and come to the conclusion that FPS DS games just have a steep learning curve when it comes to the controls. Even after you get used it it, your hand is going to get sore. Guaranteed.

He feels slighted over the N64... I rather liked botht he N64 and GC, but never had to deal with limited libraries of either really. (well there were some Xbox and PS2 games I wanted, but I was more often upset about them not being on PC, or taking forever for a PC release than not being on GC)

Apparently. I had a first-party 1019-block card and it took a crap on me recently. I replaced it with the same one you probably bought. Madkatz 16x?
I think the 16x card is 8MB (1019 blocks), with 4x being 2 MB (251 blocks), with 1x being the smallest 59 block (512 kB) cards. (32x would be the 16 MB cards) Heh, 32x.

I hated that stupid water pack in Mario Sunshine. It never had enough water. I would have preferred a strait platforming game. I liked Luigi's Mansion though.

Just says 64 MB (1019 blocks) on it... got it off Ebay, so whatever they've got on there. It's white if that helps, lol.

That game is gorgeous. My GF loves it

I'm gonna have a blast with it. Only problem is that one of these new 3rd party GC controllers I bought doesn't (the R shoulder button) stick all the way down like it's supposed to... the other controller works great and the Nintendo one works great... not sure what's up with this one 3rd Party controller... both of them were new in box. The official controller was used but is in like new condition.

Let's get this thread back on the right track, eh???

I'm currently playing Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes (in fact, Oldschool, that's the game I had to buy a new card to play). It's just like the PSX original, only awesomer-looking. Worth buying if you can find it.

Resident Evil. Like Twin Snakes, this is basically just a gussied-up port of the original Playstation game. However, it has new areas and a new creature (with her own new subplot). If you can look past the controls, it's worth playing again (try it with the 'Type C' control setting).
Do I need this? I've already got some part 1-3 thing for PS1/PS2... it was $25 new at Frys.

I picked up that Resident Evil Archives for Wii... looked fun as hell... and I never played the original so I figured I should get it.

Hmmm, interesting.... if this Collectors Edition is super expensive, I'll just play the original on N64 and be happy.

In regard to Metroid... I picked up the Trilogy for Wii... looks totally badass!!

OP, I say don't mess with the Metroids on the GC, get all 3 of them for Wii. From what I'd read, there are some neat water effects that aren't present in the Wii versions, but the controls and being able to have all 3 games Sealed/new for $50 is a steal imo.

I had a very brief stint with the Gamecube...the last generation (minus the Dreamcast) just wasn't really my thing. Sure, there are great Gamecube games, but there weren't enough for me to feel like it was really worth hanging on to for the long-run.

But like I said, there are some fun titles. If you like RPGs, go for Skies of Arcadia: Legends. Donkey Konga is also fun...don't care what anyone says.

One of the big disappointments for me was Virtua Quest, and RPG with Virtua Fighter characters in it (kind of like Kingdom Hearts in that respect). I preordered that game, and it was as boring as hell.

Only if you really like the original. The cutscenes are all redone and the perspective for some of the setpieces is changed - and not always for the better. The MGS in that pack you got is the PSX version. I have no idea why the PS2 didn't get the remake, too.

I for one LOVE the GameCube. Here is my own list of recommendations:

    Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker
Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean (FANTASTIC RPG)
Baten Kaitos Origins (prequel to a fantastic RPG!)
    F-Zero GX
Soul Calibur II (which I felt played better and had much nicer graphics than Soul Calibur III...)
Sonic Gems, Sonic Mega Collection (of course!)
    Eternal Darkness
    Resident Evil 4
    Super Smash Bros. Melee
    Star Fox Adventure
    Skies of Arcadia Legends
    Metroid Prime
    Metroid Prime 2: Echoes

Game Cube is a nice gem. But all I can do is second or third what people have already mentioned. Mario Sunshine, Zelda (wind passer!), Metroid (the first one), Skies of Arcadia Legend (a port), Dark Alliance (love this hack 'n slash), F-Zero GX (or whatever, really nice sense of speed in this game), Smash Bros, Tales of Symphonia (love this version best, next to the 360 one), Viewtiful Joe, Bomberman Generations (love this one!), RE4, SC2. I'm sure there are a quite a few more that I've forgotten. I picked up a Japanese GC, shipped, for the price of a Free Loader - to play Japanese GC games. I got Hudson's remake of Bonk for the JP GC, though I'm sure there are other JP only games that are worth picking up. Free loader was about $20 BITD. Not sure what they're going for these days.

Oh yeah, I got those two Starfox games, they're badass.

I'm cool with part 1 being the original PS title. Looks like it's gonna be a jam.

Me too. It's supposed to be a Mario game, "not the bleedin' splish splash show"

I liked both Star Fox adventures and Assault. Adventures is a good zelda/rare style adventure game, good looking and pretty fun: unfortunately most of the shooter stages are very tacked on and pointless (the initial battle as crystal and final boss battle are probably the best, but the rest ranges from mediocre to plain annoying). It's not good for those looking for a "Star Fox" game (ie tons of space/flying shooter levels), but a good adventure game.

Assault gets mixed responses, but I liked it, managed to get all bronzes more than 1/2 the silvers and a fair amount of gold metals. The controls ere a bit anoying to switch between for on foot, flying and tank stages, but the main problem was having one fixed control scheme IMO.
Multiplayr is decent, but the weakest part is probably lack of AI enemies, that and needing to play multiplayer a lot and complete the main game to unlock all the good stuff. (extra levels, characters, modes of play, weapons, etc)
You could go the action replay or game shark power saves route, of course.

I like sunshine, so far more than Galaxy, but I need to try that again to be sure. SM64 is still better overall, but I found sunshine interesting. (I do prefer the Sonic Adventure games in some respects, I really liked the feel at times in those)

I really want to play the latter Zelda games, I REALLY do, but I cant abide by that odd style....the sort of Super Deformed look with the huge waggling head. I tried them for DS and was VERY let down that you had to MOVE link using the touch screen... (I had hoped for a game like Link to the Past or Link's Awakening...ehh...)

Was this thread about GameCube games?? Hell I dont even recall....

Oh, I had a Godzilla game for my GC that was pretty killer, if you enjoy Kaiju ans smashing things!
