    Default Video-Game-Inspired-Science/stuff on TV/Movies

This first one is probably not such an example, but I was taken aback to find that the first portal that Dr. Bishop makes to the other dimension in Fringe looks just like one of the portals in ToeJam & Earl: Panic in Funkotron to the "Gift" dimension.

Seeing how much inspiration J.J. Abrams projects take from other TV shows (like futurama--->i.e. Agent Farnsworth), one may assume other forms of media may play a part in this as well. Here are the pictures. You'd be the judge:
(and, oh, yes, can you name some other "Video-Game-Inspired-Science/stuff you've seen on TV/Movies?)

Darn it.. I tried to find a picture of the portal on Panic on Funkotron, but failed. Here's an image of the actual bonus stage in question:

Here's what it looks like on video: (skip to 2:48 Mins)

I watched the TJ&E video and don't see the connection. It (the portal in TJ&E) doesn't look anything like that part from that episode. In what way are they supposed to be similar (other than both being portals) ? I also couldn't think of any inspired events in movies or shows, from video games. I mean, direct events. Something that you could draw a connection to a specific game. Even if I did, I'd probably chalk it up to coincidence. I did see something in Kick-Ass, but that wasn't specific to any game that I know of. Just a part of the movie where it goes into first person mode (person wearing night vision goggles), but it looks just like a game screen. Nothing specific to any game that I can recall.

I watched an episode of Fringe once, JJ Abrams was definitely "inspired" by Half-Life's G-Man.

That blog proves you're not entirely correct.

Ben X easily takes the cake for it's not only based on gaming (in this case MMO) it has a bit of serious social commentary on the topic too.

And there's also the dross that is Gamer.

The Metroid/Alien thing is pretty obvious.
