I was even on the Sega side of things before I fuckin' woke up and realized what was happenin'. The problem is, by then the war was over and the damage had been done. But hey, it's better late than never... at least, that's what them mind doctors always tell me. Like they know a fuckin' thing about goin' through a console war.

And now, seein' all the shit bein' crapped out by Sony, Nintendo and them?

    Hmph. War. War never changes.

Cut from the same mold, man.

Maybe their similarities (Nintendo and Apple) are part of this hate/feud.

But this smack talk sounds like its happening because Nintendo's profits are down the first time in years.

Nintendo's Profits being down doesn't bother me one bit since they haven't made a good console since the SNES.

Of course Nintendo's profits are down. Products peak. You can't just have continuously increasing profits forever. Not in this business, anyway.

Targeting Apple will only make things worse for them IMO.

They're mad because Apple is stealing their "Shovelware" concept to print money.

    0_0 ... Wow, just wow.

successful with the PS1, efficient hardware that's cheap to manufacture and easy to develop for.
It wasn't that cheap to manufacture, they did have a good advantage over the Saturn's moderately more costly design and big savings on the CD-ROM drive due to Sony owning a fair amount of the patents (greatly reducing overhead), but mainly it was price dumping actually more than they intended to as they'd counted on RAM prices dropping sooner, but that's one of the big things that really hurt Sega, forcing them to do likewise which they really couldn't afford. (actually it hurt pretty much every other western console manufacturer too, I think it may have been in conflict with international trade laws, but no one ever sued -Atari Corp threatened, but that fell through -probably related to the shift in plans to liquidate the company)

I'll never play games on a cell phone.... so neither Apple nor Nintendo would ever get my business in that arena. I guess they're lucky I'm in the minority when it comes to that mindset.
I've played a couple free demos when I was bored and waiting or such, that's it though.

Yeah, but can you imagine what it was like for those experiencing it not on the Nintendo or Sega side, but for those poor Turbografx owners....

Exactly, I'm not sure why anyone would be shocked about a decline in profits, particularly with a rather large chunk coming from hardware sales (out of the ordinary for the current market), and less prominent software sales for a large chunk of the userbase.

Targeting Apple will only make things worse for them IMO.
You know, that's a good point... Nintnedo's current market is already pushing fairly close to the gaming related areas Apple is pushing into: it could be far more beneficial to shift more toward the "hardcore" market so to speak, or "gamer's games" rather than pushing harder into the casual market.
Not abandon the casual market, obviously, but they could really have a much better balance between the 2 ends of the spectrum. (there's a bit of middle ground missing too, not just Nintnedo, but pretty much across the board)

Why are you so ashamed of your own hobby? More importantly, why are you so worried about what perfect strangers think about you? I really don't give two shits if people see me playing an actual game console in public. I'm comfortable with me, and I don't think anyone here is convinced by your "iphone gets you vaginas" hypothesis. If you're so worried about what that drunk chick on the other side of the room thinks of you, that's fine, but don't try to be a condecending idiot to us.

No, it's unbiased analysis. The only fanboyism is people who claim that Hyperstone Heist and Bloodlines are actually as good as their SNES counterparts.

I don't see gamer types playing the DS (or PSP for that matter) in public that often, either on campus, around home, or on the bus. I see kids with GBAs (sometimes GBCs) or DSs, much less often PSPs, and a fair mix of guys and girls with PSPs, DSs, and occasionally playing on an iPhone.
DS is probably most common and a fair amount with girls too (probably a bit more for guys), and a similar mix for PSPs, iPhone gaming seems to be mostly guys from what I've noticed, and far less common than the other two. (plenty of iPhone users doing other things, but not too many I've seen playing games in public -same for other smart phones or cell phones -the latter most often simple puzzle/tetris like games)

I don't play games in public on handhelds mainly due to lack of interest and in most ideal circumstances (riding the bus and such), the motion tends to screw up my gameplay too much for a lot of games.

The only time I play handhelds in public is when I'm sitting at the airport terminal, or sitting on a job site waiting for a call back.
A Black Falcon: no, computer games and video games are NOT the same thing. Video games are on consoles, computer games are on PC. The two kinds of games are different, and have significantly different design styles, distribution methods, and game genre selections. Computer gaming and console (video) gaming are NOT the same thing."

I play them in public any time that I'm sitting around waiting on something, be it on a bus or for lunch to end

, and now with Sony's brand name losing its strength its possible that if they bring out yet another overpriced console that's hard to develop for and has only a handfull of games for its first year people might not swallow it anymore.

Personally though I think Sony will probably be ok, they just got complacent, they stopped making any effort because they knew they didn't need to, now that they've been knocked about a bit they'll probably go back to what made them successful with the PS1, efficient hardware that's cheap to manufacture and easy to develop for.
180 titles I've picked up in the last month for the PS2 say otherwise.
It's a fantastic system... it's cheap new (atm), and it's catalog gets cheaper every day.

Can't beat it for what it does imo.
