yeah, you really can't go wrong with the PS2. it has a game for everyone.
I'm sure Nintendo is feeling so threatened by a company that can barely hold on in the PC market- that is, Macs aren't known for gaming which drives a lot of PC sales, Windows is more stable than it used to be and Apple still charges 3X for comparable hardware specs with less user-friendly upgrade options.
And now with more MP3 options out the iPod brand isn't so hot. Other online stores are better than iTunes, many of which offer DRM-free downloads in better bitrates. And if some MP3 manufacturer would only offer OGG Vorbis support in their devices we could see the large file size MP3 format die off(if only companies would realize that DRM does jack crap to stop piracy).
All Nintendo has to do is push the gaming aspect and they'd win.
Still not as cheap as it could be IMO, but not near as overpriced as the Wii (for what the hardware is), obviously there was a point when the hardware was sold at a loss, but that's LONG passed. (didn't the PSOne drop a fair bit below $99 when it was still on the market -and not as old as the PS2 is now?)
Really, the PS2 is the close to being the longest marketed console in the West since the Genesis (and only if you include Majesco -Tectoy is another story), or the PS1 after that. (was the PS1 still being sold in '06?) The VCS was sold for a ridiculously long time, into the 90s as a low-budget platform. (formally discontinued in '93, but probably phased out in most US retail locations a couple years prior -still that's around 14 years, if not more)
I think the 4 player party games were fairly limited, and that was a big part of my fondest console gaming memories, even on the Xbox. (namely split-screen Halo, but some others too)
Windows is more stable than compared to when? There have been plenty of stable windows incarnations, most had issues early on and some were generally not worth it (ME probably being more the latter compared to contemporary alternatives). Most mature versions of of the better windows OSs have been stable as 7 is, if not better. (win 98 -particularly SE, 2000, and XP were/are all quite stable -relatively speaking- in Maturity, OS/2 was great, but that's not formally Windows, and older NT incarnations were also impresive, but those didn't apply so much to the consumer market -technically 2000 was aimed as such either, but it probably could have been -and at the time, far better than ME -sticking with 98 or 98SE was/is better than that, for what it was worth in most cases than ME, and 2000 matured before XP, though had a reputation for instability early on -no worse than XP AFIK)
Plus there's always the Linux option.
Again, not to turn this into a PC thread...
That's a good point, they've got the casual market nailed at the moment, as well as the handheld market, if they can manage to balance the "gamer's games" edge of the market a bit more that could really help, same if the Wii's successor is more balanced as such. (and hopefully a good bit more technically competitive with nextgen contemporaries, not the hottest hardware per se, but at least up to snuff and a good bit beyond the PS3 and 360)All Nintendo has to do is push the gaming aspect and they'd win.
The declining support for the gamecube controller is not promising though... (it tends to be wii remote/chuck only, or Clasic controller... which sucks -particularly as the wavebird is more convenient than the CC, on top of having to buy a CC)
Hmm, I wonder if that's tied to Nintnedo not being allowed to manufacture GC controllers anymore. (I forget the details, but wasn't there some legal issues over that?)
Ah: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nintend...r#Legal_issues
So they aren't banned from selling the GC controller.
I think the Wavebird is the best wireless controller used on any nintendo platform... (too bad the classic controller wasn't made to function as a full wii remote, probably sans the potentiometer, but with a pointer sensor such that it doesn't need to parasitize the wii remote)

I dare anyone to click that link and not laugh uncontrollably.
Looks like Nintendo can take the high road.
The big difference is that the PS2 still sold in large numbers up to about 2008. It's the greatest selling console of all time and I believe it deserves to be, since the software library is about as solid as any console has ever had.
There's also a new app for the Ipad.
A Black Falcon: no, computer games and video games are NOT the same thing. Video games are on consoles, computer games are on PC. The two kinds of games are different, and have significantly different design styles, distribution methods, and game genre selections. Computer gaming and console (video) gaming are NOT the same thing."
*facepalm yet again*
I didn't say iPhone gets ass, but at the same time it doesn't immediately dry the vagina of every woman within 3 miles.
I'm not going to continue arguing this point, but now you know why the girls don't call.
laugh uncontrollably? pah! I'm signing up!
It'd be nice to date someone that isn't so out of touch with reality that they actually use a PC and like it.
Don't get me wrong, the PS2 was a great system, but no it most certainly didn't have that many great games. The PS1 however had a ton of great games.
The only reason it sold so well, is because it was technically just an upgrade/extention(think the Genesis/Sega CD, but just executed a hell of a lot better). You can still play all the amazing PS1 games, and then you get to play whatever comes out in the future for the PS2(It's a shame that the PS2 started a huge trend known as new school smut, which is why most of my PS2 games come from 3 companies, where with PS1, and back, my games come from a ton of different companies).

That is so interesting you make that argument because imo, the PS1 suffers from "same game over and over again" syndrome. All systems do... but the PS1 looks like it suffers from it more than any other system.
My list of 180+ says otherwise. Not to be a giant arrogant arse, but I'd be willing to bet that most people on here would agree that my PS2 collection is pretty solid.... therefore backing up my argument that the PS2 does in fact have some pretty badass games for it.
I also picked up about 15 or so PS1 games that imo, are solid as can be. But for the most part, the PS1 catalog is 'same ol same ol same ol'.
hahahahaha... I knew that was coming... shit...![]()
I'm gonna have to put it up here sooner er later for all to criticize, lol.
I will in the next week er so... it's typed, just needs to be organized.
I'll make a thread for it when the time comes... will post my Wii collection as well.
