    Default Metal Gear Solid Rising

I fell in love with the franchise last year after getting the chance to play through all 4 games in chronological order(3,1,2,4), each for the very first time.

I am very excited about the new game, but im skeptical though. ive heard that kojima had nothing to do with the game, which scares me.

    is that true?

does anyone know anything about this game yet? like a release date or plot info?

    any predictions, opinions?

I never played the original Metal Gear on NES, I did play MGS more than a decade ago on PSX, and own MGS2 which is my personal favorite. Never bothered with MGS3, and I don't own a PS3 to play MGS4. I will get Rising since it will also be available on the 360.

The original Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake are MSX games. Metal Gear on the NES, although a good port removes the fight with Metal Gear and adds a Supercomputer you have to blow up. Snake's Revenge (Ultra) is also an okay game but totally unrelated and has nothing to do with Hideo Kojima.

Thing is Solid Snake (the real Metal Gear 2) never got an English release at all. There is a patch for it though and it is an incredible game. Probably Kojima's best, simply because it isn't as linear as Snatcher.

I find it kind of funny that there were two Metal Gear games in 10 years and then a long wait for MGS... then they released like 14 new Metal Gear games. VR training pack, GBC game, PSP games, PS2/3 games... GC rereleases... I'm not surprised that Kojima is jumping ship. I stopped playing when they introduced Raiden. The games are about Snake damnit!

There's an officially translated rom of MG2 on Subsistence's second DVD.

I don't mind Raiden. He was annoying at first but his conception was a bold move and Kojima is always overconfident. I haven't played MGS4 but having read it takes itself too seriously I lost interest. If MGS:R brings back the camp I'll be all over it.

the port of metal gear 2 on subsistance is updated. for example solid snake in the game looks more like he did in mgs and less like reese conner. a few more things were added to link the game closer to the modern games.

    Never bothered with MGS3,
thats too bad, youve missed out on the best one(except for mgs 1 of course)

i even think its better than 4. definetly better than 2.

as far as metal gear 1 and 2 go, those games have been begging to be remade for a long time now. im holding out for a modern day psp/ds remake. its a shame the games never saw life on the genesis. i think they wouldve been great for the sega cd, actual voice acting is what those games need.

So... this will be a game made for the real consoles without Kojima, but Kojima made the upcoming PSP Peace Walker? What the hell?

Gamegenie: Seriously, go play MGS3. It's like 5 bucks at gamestop for the regular version. Even people who hate Metal Gear love MGS3, it's so good.

I need to find Subsistence so I can play the officially translated MG2, it sounds interesting.

As far as I was aware, the Kyle Reese shot was used for the cover of the original Metal Gear, while the model for Snake in MG2:SS was Christopher Walken. Not sure if I fully believe it, but Big Boss was Sean Connery for damn sure!

Edit: According to questionable sources, Cristopher Walken was the face for MGS, while Mel Gibson was the inspiration for Snake in MG2:SS. Still don't buy it.

Here's a nice little article that points out some of the actors that originally inspired the characters. Also, if I'm not mistaken, Roy Campbell in the original Metal Gear 2 MSX game was model after Colonel Trautman from the Rambo movies.

I have the original Metal Gear 1 & 2 for NES coming soon... I can't wait to go through them.

I never could beat 1 when I was a kid... hell, I didn't have the patience for that type of game back then. Can't wait to go through them now..

And after I beat those 2, I'm gonna go through Solid 1-3 on my PS2, and those look amaaaaazing.

something that wouldve made metal gear solid 2 an awesome game is if it were a 2 player game, with one player controlling solid snake and a second player controlling raiden. maybe with split screen co-op gameplay with boss battles and certain parts being on a single screen(like the part in 2 where snake and raiden rendevouz and help each other out in battle and the game starts to mess with you). wouldve worked fine as solid snake was on the big shell plant during the entire game anyways. maybe that was what they were planning on doing, possibly running short on time and deciding on going with the raiden part of the game at the last minute.

in my opinion 2 has the worst ending out of the franchise. it seems as if it couldve been a little bit longer.

3 definetly has the best, most dramatic ending.

the original mgs is just epic all the way through, and the closest to being perfect out of the 4.

my favorite line from the game:

"only a fool trusts his life to a weapon, hand to hand is the basis of all combat."

    and...

    "yes!, i remember this pain!!!!!"

    amazing.
