Default Technical feats in Genesis games that impressed you.

For me, first and foremost, it was the SoR series. Yeah, we've often praised it's music, graphics and gameplay, but another thing that amazes me about the series is the amount of opponents it throws on-screen in its highest difficulties:

I think that SoR1, with its simplistic graphics, has it's sequels beat, with upwards of 10-12 mooks on-screen, so much that the flicker makes your player invincible!

I think it was TmEE who once mentioned that he was impressed with how the programmers positioned all those enemies on different scanlines to prevent flickering in SoR2 & 3.

The water effects and reflective surfaces in Castlevania: Bloodlines always caught my attention. Some really nice stuff going on there to be sure of it.

Ranger-X with the amount of parallax scrolling and sprites flying around in every witch direction at once is one sight to see.

Mickey Mania has a lot of neat effects. One is the level when you are running down the stairs on a pillar. The pillar rotates while the background pans in the opposite direction, the pillar itself looks to have depth like the bricks wrap around it as it spins. Then the stairs around the pillar have depth and they appear angle around the pillar as it spins. Dynamite Heady had a similar level with the same effects in it.

Tomaitheous said the comment about SoR games not me ^^

anyway, I was impressed by the title screen of Mega Turrican, speed of software rendering of Kawasaki Superbike Challenge, cool stuff in Contra and Gunstar Heores, cool things in Mickey Mania and quite a bit of other stuff I cannot think of right now...

Not much technical, but I was really impressed by the following when I first saw them:

    - the effects of the satellite breaking into pieces in the 1st stage of Sol-Deace
    - the music of the 1st stage in Jewel Master
    - the 1st boss in Contra Hard Corps
    - the 1st time Sonic turned golden in Sonic 2 (it was like 3 am and I was sleepy - what a scare!)
    - the whole stage 8 in Thunder Force IV
    - the graphics in Greendog
    - the 1st stage in Streets of Rage 2
    - and of course Street Fighter Special Champion Edition playing in my Mega Drive!

You know, I often confuse the tech wizards here at Sega-16.

"Yeah, TmEE said that.........no wait it was tomaitheous........nah, it was Chilly Willy..."

The entire Batman and Robin game is impressive, but the single greatest marvel is the Mad Hatter boss.

This is the most impressive thing on any 16 bit console, in my opinion.

Yeah true anything Scavenger released on the Genesis was pretty technical. Batman and Robin definitely had some holly shit moments! So did Red Zone if anyone has seen that.

If only I was good enough to witness those awesome graphical moments like Mad Hatter in the Adventures of Batman & Robin. That game seriously kicks my ass (chews me up and spits me out and then stomps on my mangled corpse while laughing at my ineptitude as a gamer) every time I play it.

Gunstar Heroes - All those lavish explosions and enemies onscreen is a technical marvel for the Genesis.

Bio-hazard Battle - This game has some amazing enemy designs that have to be seen to be believed. Simply beautiful and amazing by any standard.

Dynamite Headdy - The various bosses like the puppeteer are amazing along with the rotation effects.

Battle Mania Daiginjou - Pulls off amazing bosses and environments with little to no slowdown.

Alien Soldier - some of the largest, most detailed and fluidly animated bosses seen anywhere on the Genesis/Megadrive.

Contra: Hard Corps - Incredible bosses and animation. This game is a technical marvel.
    Babies...the unfortunate by-product of a good time.

Gunstar Heroes and Contra Hard Corps, with all of the multi-jointed bosses and enemies and explosions everywhere; Red Zone and Batman & Robin, with all of the parallax and rotation (thank God for the level select code in Batman & Robin); Zero Tolerance and Toy Story's FPS stage, because I never thought that an FPS could be done on the system (although I NEVER saw the Toy Story stage in motion. Only on pictures); Mega Turrican with the awesome effects and stuff; and games like F-15 Strike Eagle 2, Kawasaki and Virtua Racing, because of the mere sight of polygons and 3D on the 16-bitter
