I am concerned for your almost of blowing yourself up. but the rest of it is comedy gold! Its something id imagine to happen on the IT Crowd.

But since you're still typing I have come to the conclusion you're alive and well.

I cannot help but think Electronics is not your fortae'

no its not... I am a mechanical engineer.

I came here for help on electrical stuff...

getting info out of tm is like squezing blood out of a stone.]

I was just about to switch of the adapter at the wall cause i was too lazy to take it out... but I forgot... touched the iron... saw the arc... and the rest is now history.

ill be making sure it never happens again... set me back 15 dollars, that little mistake.

I'm not online every day, just on tuesdays and thursdays, and sometimes a little on saturdays and sundays... and then there's the lovely time zones, you go to sleep while I have 6 hours until I do that.

after descovering that the sega DC adapter has a reverse polarity... i almost started getting results.

I also perhaps maybe have found the cause of my problems

    http://s537.photobucket.com/albums/f...raymond1/sega/

if you see here there are 2 leaky caps both 100uF. and that blue 101K thing. can anyone tell me what that is and weather I can replace it with something?

I only have a 240uF and a 47uf... they would be no good as I need a 100uF right? I couldn`t just use them?? if so, which would be better?

also I put that 22000 cap on there... and it did nothing.

please let me know what that blue thing is. should I be worried about the traces being coroded now?

I dont know what the blue thing is.

I can't see the images, But if your traces are corroded you can bridge them by soldering a wire to and from byepassing the corrosion.

dude id be almost scared to open your photobucket glad you're okay though.

turns out it could be an inductor... so it gets the ducks and puts it in it!

but all that corrosion was caused by those damn rubycon caps! all three of them are bad while the fifteen capxon caps are perfect!

    go to hell rubycon!!!!

    yay!

    I have suceeded!!!

I replaced those 3 caps and inductor... and it now loads disks like lightning!!! Thanks for all who helped! Much appreciated!

However... my audio is now making a rather violent poping sound (i used to be able to hear some audio before but now I cant at all) ... both from the back of the CD unit and through the MD its self. I noticed the audio deteriated over the span of using the origional psu... and I fear I may have burned out the audio processing chip.

Can someone tell me where I can get the pure raw audio signals from which ever chip it applies to?

Thanks very much for all your help!

    Cheers!

this sega cd unit is on the mend!

that LC7883 is the CDDA DAC, all CD audio comes from that chip. One other LC chip with 5 numbers is PCM chip DAC. I would be replacing more caps than just those that you did.

It explains it. there was one leg of that very chip that was corroded by the caps leaked out acid... so i resoldered that joint...

i switched the system and I got super crackly pcm audio... which is an improvement... then I tried CD audio... and it sounds perfectly fine now ^^ and everything loads again too

so what caps could be causing crackly audio on the pcm side??? I cant seem to see all of the traces on this board... they seem to be more than just double sided :S

Scrape off the corrosion as much as possible... one thing that can happen is that corrosion has destroyed some vias that connect two sides of the board.

When one cap is dead, all will follow... replace ALL of them... they're probably mostly 10 or 22µF electrolythic caps anyway...
