We will be certainly looking to continue the team tournament, as that is what makes the Europeans a little bit different to the domestic competitions.

Expansion, of course, would help address issues of predictability but, of course, it is much easier to say we want more teams than the reality of actually getting more nations involved. Six nations would be ideal as we can abandond the traditional league system used currently and adpot an elimination league and knockout system, similar to that used currently in the Portuguese Tournaments.

As for Team England, while I accept finishing last may not be the most enjoyable thing in the world (and by that stance alone it implies the competition is more important than Rottenbeard claims) but since England cannot win on their games they themselves select then it defeat seems to simply equate to a lack of practice on the part of the English.

We are running a competition not necessarily a social event, otherwise it would be the Mega Drive Gatherings not Championships.

That gives Rottenbeard an idea. What does the fine people of this forum think of the idea of a tag team concept? Not in the mainstream sense of the tournament but a side thing (like the Street Fighter Chun-Li thing at the last England tournament) Numbers permitting. Two people from different nationalities joining forces in various 4 player games.

Multi-national tag teams? Thought about it in 2009, considered it, didn't like it, ditched it

I'm not overly keen about anything that detracts too much from the main competition. Individual competitions and fancy Street Fighter gimmickery would take the shine of an event that is still in its infancy and requires growth. While such things work and are welcome on a domestic level, I feel it would be counter-productive to introduce such things on the International stage for the time being.

Fair enough, was just a suggestion. Chris just suggested I shove the idea up my ass anyway .

Perhaps in the future (after the growth from the infancy) if we can get more countries and more people from them, it could be an option, but national tag teams instead? Kinda like how the WWE/other wrestling things have separate titles. Would be a very long way off, and we'd need alot more TV's. We should have enough lanyards for everyone.

As an official representative of Team Hungary *irony* I can proclaim, that there is a very
small chance of getting a Team Ukraine for the next championship, in addition to Team
Hungary. I will look into that soon and post here if enough people can be found.

I can have a word with my brother and see about a Team Wales. I wouldn't hold my breath though.

    Sigh.

WORKING HARD TO COMPETE IS SOME PEOPLE'S WAY TO HAVE FUN. THEY WANT TO DO IT, THEY LOVE DOING IT, THEY FEEL GREAT DOING IT.

I seriously hope you're not generalizing but only talking about yourself, on the part of your text I've bolded. Because I'll seriously have to shake my head and rest my case otherwise.

    I personally prefer jump HK > close HP > qcb+LK > f+HK > Crow Bite HP :P

It's still rather simple, but I'm too shitty a player to go for better.
And yeah, it's not Mega Drive.

Of course. Rottenbeard would never claim to be speaking on behalf of an entire demographic.

What exactly do you mean by knockout system?
Because I think it's important to give everyone the chance to compete until the end of the tournament (even if it might become useless after a while).
No one wants to travel to a tournament only to be knocked out after one or two rounds, sitting around for the rest of the day (even if it's in good company =)).

I liked the system of the latest Championship, and the combination of contestant- and admin-selected games. Although it might be an interesting idea to keep the admin-games secret until the day of the tournament, it does not really fit for an actual competition. Anyone knowing these particular games, inevitably has an advantage. If it's supposed to be a serious competition, you can't do much else but announce every single game beforehand to even the odds.

For me the "National Team" label no longer makes sense in the tournaments!
This year we have a non national team (despite all the good intents of the question), I don't even remember listening some national anthem this year!?
So simply make it a 3 persons team tournament. this way we will have much more teams and obviously the competition will be much more intense!

We agree with this notion 100% and the idea was with (for example) six teams, to split them into two groups of three and two places in each league qualifying for a semi-final. Each nation prior to the tournament would have selected a semi-final game in addition to their home picks. The three team members will then play one game each against members of the other teams. With the winner advancing to the final where the same system will apply, except the games will be randomly selected from all the games picked at the tournament (excluding admin picks).

This will keep the majority of the teams in the competition for a long period, but end the tournament in spectacular fashion.

And if Portugal sends two teams they will at least have a competition. Ok, that was a bad joke..

But the point is, having national teams gives the tournament a slightly official touch. Without calling the teams after their nations we will get just more teams from germany, england and protugal. (Well technically we had a second german team this year.)
One could change the teams to something like: At least one of the team has to be in the nation. Or just allow a Dutch/Italian/Japanese Team if they want to. But please don’t open the way for a team “protugal 2” “germany 2” or “England 2”

The door have been open already...

Back in 2009 I have the opportunity to make at least team Macao, Angola and Spain. But for me that would make no sense since in the end they all are Portuguese!

And I'm not thinking about Portugal 2 when talking about the 3 person teams. I'm more thinking about the single Dutch, Italian, French and so on... And I would love to make team with Tobias and Chris for example
