Yeah the Gauntlet ticked me off, mostly because we had just killed all of those bosses a few minutes ago! Including the very stage before the Gauntlet.

I wonder if Nintendo made some things exclusive to Turtles in Time (similar to the situation with Street Fighter II, when Nintendo got exclusive rights to the title "SFII Turbo," hence we Genesis lovers got SFII: Special Champion Edition, a long time after the SNES game).

I wonder if similar things happened with these Turtles games? Maybe Nintendo got the exclusive rights to that gimmick of throwing enemies onto the screen? Plus all the other things missing from the Hyperstone Heist, which are present in the arcade & SNES game...

Hmm... interesting theory, although with Nintendo it wouldn't surprise me. They were set on monopoly and world domination back in the day!

I actually played this first on the Megadrive/Genesis and it was/is one of my favourite games ever.

I do own also turtles in time for the snes, and while I can agree it is more "complete" after playing so much the megadrive version, turtles in time just feels slower, harder to control, has less enemies on screen and weaker animation.

Honestly, I did feel disapointed, so much hype and after just a few minutes of gameplay and so much is lacking...
By no means turtles in time is a bad game and has more different levels and is more colorfull, but after the maniac gameplay of the md version...

I felt so disapointed with the game that I looked for comparisons on the internet, I did find them:

I know I´m problaby almost alone on this one so finding this was very rewarding for me...

I played it once. Never touched Turtles in Time on both the Arcade and SNES though. However, I did enjoy the fight with Super Shredder. Just because I think Super Shredder is awesome.

iirc, I think Hyperstone Heist and Rocket Knight Adventures use the same sound driver, or a similar one. Mainly because I read the documentation elsewhere.

TiT blows this out of the water. But in its own right, this is a pretty great game.

Its a good game but too easy and sadly not as good as the arcade game, I wish they had just converted that.
To be this good takes AGES, to be this good takes SEGA!

Indeed, it would have been awesome if Genesis owners got an exclusive 16-bit port of the original arcade game!

Yes, according to EGM's 2000 Video Game Buyer's Guide, Nintendo struck one-year exclusivity agreements with Capcom and Konami for SFII and Turtles in Time respectably. If Konami wanted to port over TiT, they would've had to wait until sometime in 1993 to do so, which they didn't, as HH was released in late 1992, thus to release that they had to pretty much create a new game using the basic Turtles in Time elements.

Plus: It is rather unusual for a Japanese company do to straight ports to multiple platforms. Street Fighter II is a notable exception to this rule though.
The Mega Drive was far inferior to the NES in terms of diffusion rate and sales in the Japanese market, though there were ardent Sega users. But in the US and Europe, we knew Sega could challenge Nintendo. We aimed at dominating those markets, hiring experienced staff for our overseas department in Japan, and revitalising Sega of America and the ailing Virgin group in Europe.

Then we set about developing killer games.

Don't you mean, "Super Street Fighter II?" Capcom released (slightly) unique versions of SFII for the SNES and Genesis.

I've been tying to get this game but for a decent price. In other words, no more than $16 and eBay has it for over $40.

$16 CIB your going to need to have lots of patience. I got luck as hell with mine a BIN 3 game lot for $20. My Hyperstone Heist is as mint as mint gets very sweet. (the other 2 games were Toe Jam and Earl Japanese version and Bubble and Squeak weird lot to say the least).

    Sup guys,

My GF and I were at the "Unique" thrift store yesterday and I found a copy of TMNT Hyperstone Heist! I cleaned it put it on and played it to the last level before the freeze spray turned me into a turtle-cicle. Cowabunga!

I think this is my favorite console adaptation of the Turtles Beat-em ups. The animation is better, there are closer to the Arcade games' number of enemies on screen. There are at least just as many unique level segments as Turtles in Time SNES, and all of this adds up to a great experience for me. A boss rush level only makes the game better in my opinion. I was thrilled back in the day to play such an Arcade like Turtles Beat-em up at home, and I still am today.

This is for sure my favourite, even one of my favourite beat n ups ever, I do own Turtles in time for snes but this is just faster, better animated and more fun to play, the music is also awesome.
Amazing that such an easy game to complete has so much replayability
