So, after playing all three Mega Drive-Shinobis in the last few weeks I must say they are all some of the greatest 16-Bit-games. I like Revenge of Shinobi best, Shadow Dancer is no.2 for me followed closely by Shinobi III. Every one of the games has it´s advantages.

ROS has the coolest and most "realistic" Ninja-atmosphere, great level-design and a nice graphic-style and sound. Especially ROS´ Joe Musashi-sprite looks better than in both sequels.

Shadow Dancer has a cool apocalyptic atmosphere and is faster and more comic-like, the dog-feature is cool too (although his barking goes on my nerves), but the one hit=one life-thing annoys me a bit.

Shinobi III has the best moves,and a quick gameplay but it kind of lacks in the atmosphere, the style and the sound-department compared to the other two.

I know this is old as heck, but man, those sound clips are about as subtle as a boot to the head.

The main problem with the game is that the dog barks constantly. However, most of the time I ignore it, and it's not a problem.

Real men (and real Women, too) play this game without shurikens. It's much more fun than trying to get bonuses in the older Shinobi games, i.e. hoping and praying that you press the button at the exact right moment (not too fast, not too late).

It's a great game, and definitely still one of my favorites on the library. I've played it far more often than the other two Shinobi games, which says something all by itself!

It is funner without shurikens. I almost think its harder with shurikens when you get into the ninjas that flip across the screen.
