The Pokemon GBA carts are always a semi-translucent color representing the game(Red for Ruby, Blue for Sapphire, Green for Emerald)
    Anything else is fake.

Just make sure it says Nintendo on the back and it should be real. (pirate carts have no or a fake "Nintondo" or such)

Yeah that seems to be a popular one among the fakes. I've seen many a "Nintondo" also IIRC there was also something werid about the "GAME BOY Advance" label on them too, like capitalization was off or there was a different font used.

Look above the connection pins (shine some light in the cart), if it says Nintendo on the green board, it's a real one.

    This is a good guide:

it also talks about the Nintendo-text that the.importer mentioned.

The Pokemon games are the worst of these, as I recall a long time ago when I was on Alibaba, I contacted sellers to find out why they were wholesaling Pokemon GBA games for $5-7 per, and while they all looked real, they flat out said they were not the original Nintendo copies (most Hong Kong companies will tell the truth).

The other thing I have heard is that the best way to test them is with a DSi or a DSi XL. I can't confirm this, but I noticed most bootleg sellers say the games will only work on DS and DS Lite.
