Here's a picture of the NES version. It plays pretty good for an 8bit version.

SS2 is indeed not much fun - though the seller I got mine from did include a free Super Shinobi II beta pirate, which was a lot more interesting.
I actually quite like Top Fighter. Not so much because it's super-playable though.
