Default What to do with a Genesis Model 1 HD...

So I just got a HD Graphics Genesis Model 1 system for 15.00 and I have a few questions as to what to do with it.

    1) The casing is heavily scuffed; is there anything that can treat this?
    2) What mods would be recommended for this model?
    3) I haven't opened the case yet, but is a cap kit necessary?
    4) Anything I can use the EXT port for?

Any and all advice is welcome. Thanks!!!

The EXT port is completely useless, if you want to mod it go for S-Video, and it shouldn't need cap replacements. No idea about the case, I'd guess you would have leave it scratched.

    2) region mods, cartslot widening. S-Video is not necessary if you want to hook it up via RGB-SCART-to-component or -to-HDMI adapters.
    3) Usually not.
    4) No.
The Mega Drive was far inferior to the NES in terms of diffusion rate and sales in the Japanese market, though there were ardent Sega users. But in the US and Europe, we knew Sega could challenge Nintendo. We aimed at dominating those markets, hiring experienced staff for our overseas department in Japan, and revitalising Sega of America and the ailing Virgin group in Europe.

Then we set about developing killer games.

1: No. Scuffs and scratches are there for life.
3: Probably not right now, but eventually yes.
4: The MegaModem used it, but that's about it. Since it was never released Stateside, there are no US accessories that use the EXT port. Mod the port for whatever you see fit (an S-Video cable is the most fun).

Thanks for all the suggestions, guys. I'll take a better look after I clean it out and then decide what to do with it!

Also, those of you that suggested the S-Video mod, would it be better to do the cap kit now, rather than wait for it to be needed (due to the internal mods that are required to mod the system for s-video)? I understand that it's usually not needed, but if it's eventualy going to need one, would it be best to do it before all the other mods? Thanks again!

You could rewire the EXT port as a custom AV port is you wanted.

You COULD do this, but capping an entire system is a real pain in the neck, time consuming and prone to frustrating troubleshooting unless you do it exactly right. I'd say don't put yourself through the headache unless you need to. Does it buzz or anything when you power it up?
My Genny could beat up your Genny with its controllers behind its back!

Not yet; I'm just trying to be proactive since it is over 20 years old.

Turn the EXT Port into a port for playing Super Nintendo or something :')

I might mod mine, since i'm in the UK, I have no need for S-Video, so i'm gonna watch this thread for creative suggestions (y)

    This;

Sand down the megadrive with wet 800grit, make sure it's all evenly sanded.

Under the top lid there are melted points; cut or gouge these out this will remove the "ring" surrounding the cart port (do not sand this ring)

pop out the "reset" button; two clips can be squeezed.

Remove the LED and replace with a better one; avoid blue.

    Widen the cart port.

    Region mod it

spray both sides of cases (sanded and Motherboard removed) starting obviously with primer than colour then Gloss spray.

hot glue ring back down with new LED inserted. reinsert reset button.

    install switches.

    or

make a new case from scratch using card board.

take it apart and wall mount it as barebones.

    then overclock it

heh, wallmouting a bare bones motherboard sure is an interesting idea :-)
