The PS3 has finaly been cracked. Using a USB device called "PS Jailbreak", you can copy your PS3 games to the PS3 itself and also load homebrew apps.

Great, now I'll have to buy a PS3...
does this allow backwards compatibility with ps1 and ps2 for all models of ps3?
Cyber-Razor cut sir? - To be this good takes AGES - Raśl be with you.
I think they all play PS1 already. don't tell me they removed that too?
Mine don't play PS2 games though
Customized Sega Genesis Model 1 - VA3. Energy efficient with buck converters instead of LM7805's.
The article already mentions that it changes nothing to the functionality of PS1/PS2 games. Too bad, 'cause I'd love to see the PS3 being able to play PS1 games from all regions.
The thing is, is that since this can run home brew, then there should be someone out there that can code a PS2 emulator over as soon as this exploit takes off. Same thing with the PS1 region mod - whos to say they won't be able to port ePSXe or PCSX and allow region switching on the fly.
Yeah, never quite understood that. They made PS3 games regionfree, but not the PS2 or PS1. I have the original 60Gig that was made between Nov. 2006 - Jan 2007. Not a very long production run, plus not many people bought it with a price tag of $600, even rarer is the 20Gig from the same production span. If someone was going to buy a PS3 they almost certainly bought the 60Gig of the 20Gig.
And because of this fact, I will have to wait to get another PS3 before I try some of this stuff out. I would hate to brick my 60gig.
The question about the PS2 emulator is, who is willing to program a EE/GS to Cell/RS, emulator. From what most people say, the cell is already hard enough to run native code on :P
^ That was a joke btw.
Yeah, "coding a PS2 emulator" is easier said than done. After nearly 10 years of development by a large group of top coders, PCSX2 is still only able to run a mere handful of commercial games flawlessly and at full speed. The PS2 is and always will be a bitch to emulate, especially on a complex machine as the PS3 and especially without any official development tools and SDKs available.
Psh. Apparently they want you to pay 93 UK Pounds (170 USD) for their thumbdrive. No thanks.
^ There's that too. First let's see if this isn't some kind of elaborate scam. And if it actually works, it won't be long before someone comes up with a free alternative.
And then Sony disabled online play until you update to their latest (patched) firmware.
Coincidentally, a relative of mine, who got a PS3 (a 120GB Slim) yesterday asked me and my brother if there was any way to modchip, jailbreak or flashmod a PS3. We told him that you can burn PS3 games to a Blu-Ray, but that there's no way to play them. And now, there's this, but I think it would be ideal just to wait if it's actually true

Yeah, I'm not totally buying that it's true until I see people actually get it working. And by people, I don't mean the developers posting a Youtube video.
