Even if it is "real", who's to say Sony don't just upgrade the firmware to stop it working?
"wait and see mode"...*HDD grinding*...."engaged"

Way ahead of you! We moved and no longer have an option of high speed internet. Now we have satellite internet! Which sucks ass! I used to have fiber optic internet that ran at 15mb/s, now I have suck ass satellite internet that barley runs at 1mb/s and has a latency of 1500ms.
So I stopped updating firmware and everything a while ago.
A Black Falcon: no, computer games and video games are NOT the same thing. Video games are on consoles, computer games are on PC. The two kinds of games are different, and have significantly different design styles, distribution methods, and game genre selections. I was poking around at www.psx-scene.com and it seems that they have confirmed that it is real. The only downside seems to be that it takes forever to install a game, but that's to be expected of something the size of a bluray.

That's not very large. I have a 250gig HDD in my PS3, but in reality it's only about 215 to 220gigs after formatting.
Still, a game like Uncharted 2 (that spools texture data from the Blu-Ray) uses a ton of disc space. You'd be lucky to get more than 6 games stored on that HDD.

Thats true, if your using a hard drive to store games then 250 gigs isn't a lot, especially when blu-rays are 25-50gigs, but you don't "need" a 2.5in drive, If you got a F-M sATA cable you could hook up a 3.5in drive. This will help curb the cost and you get get a much larger drive.
Internal drives for the PS3 will always be more expensive in general because they are the less common 2.5" drives (found mainly in laptops). While prices for laptop drives have become more competitive, they will always remain behind desktop drives due to volume (both physical volume, and volume of drives shipped).
one could always have some desktop drive taped on the PS3 :P
