Default Official Sega Genesis Blockbuster World Championships Repro on NA

I don't do homebrews and repros but I know a lot of people do. The folks on NA have created this release:

You may have to register over on nintendoage to view the thread but I knew there would be some sega interest.

Hopefully they had those cases special made. It would be a travesty if they sacrificed the cases of a bunch of other games.

If the blockbuster repro used Acclaim cases and games, I don't think too many people would mind their loss. There are some pretty bad games published by Acclaim.

    Hello everyone!

I've been lurking here for some time now, but I haven't posted yet. My brother and I are the creators of the reproduction, and I will happily answer any questions people might have.

As for using donors, nearly every game was created using a common sports title. We didn't sacrifice MUSHA or Gunstar Heroes, but a few Quarterback Clubs might have met their demise at my hands.

@Sega Genesis: The game is indeed the Championship that you linked to. It's a combo of NBA Jam and Judge Dredd. The player plays a single quarter of NBA Jam, and then the player plays a timed game of Judge Dredd. The players receives points for scoring in NBA Jam, winning the quarter, and bonus points for number of three pointers made. The player then gets points in Judge Dredd with numerous hidden bonuses found throughout. At the end of the time limit the two scores are combined.

The reason we decided to make this reproduction is due to the success of the NES and SNES World Championship carts produced by BunnyBoy of retroUSB fame. He's done such a great job, and the games were extremely popular. Mark and I thought a Genny World Championship made sense as a result.

All games come with cart, clam shell cases, and are shrink wrapped for that new game feel. Mark and I have done a number of Nintendo reproductions but this is our first foray into Genesis. We plan on doing more such reproductions including unreleased/undistributed prototypes just as we have done with the NES.

Not bad - any chance of doing the first championship for the Genesis?

Unfortunately, this is the only competition cart made for the Sega Genesis. There are rumors that the 1st and 3rd World Championship also had competition carts created for the event (consisting of Micro Machines/Psycho Pinball and Rambo III/Tetris), but this is not the case. The other competitions actually used production Genesis titles, and did not have a dedicated cartridge for the competition.

I found a flyer for the first competition, and it mentions the titles involved. I'll see if I can dig it up again.

    Ah, here it is:

It looks like the first competition involved NBA Jam, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, and Virtua Racing. Each game was played for a week and the cumulative scores were tabulated. The highest score per store would continue on to the next round.

Are you guys only going to do legitimate unreleased/undistributed Genesis/Mega Drive games or are you including professional hacks as well?

Mark and I have discussed it, and we're certainly open to it. We likely wont do wide scale releases like this one unless it's for something like a unique prototype or competition cartridge. All future projects should cost less now too. We've refined the reproduction process and have everything we need to create a new game (Printer, sticker paper, EPROMs, programmer, cart shells, pcbs, clamshells, etc.). The only aspect that needs tending to is the artwork. If you were to supply sticker and box art, I could make a repro of any game you'd like (assuming the rom is accessible) within a day or two of you sending it to me. If you have a request shoot me a PM and I can whip something up for you. I will snap some photos before anyone sends payment as well.

I should also mention that Mark and I have feedback on Neo-Geo, NA, DP, AA, Assembler, NESWorld, and eBay. I'm sure there are numerous members here that can account for our character.
