Had to vote for Gunstar.
It has the best graphic effects on a genny action game IMHO
Sega Genesis Collector in Mexico.

It's MUSHA for me too with it's incredible level/enemy designs, rockin' soundtrack and non-stop exciting gameplay.
Contra Hard Corps, Castlevania Bloodlines, Revenge of Shinobi, Ranger X and Gunstar Heroes are honorable mentions too.

All of these games are great, but I don't really feel comfortable comparing them when they're spanning so many genres.
And Revenge of Shinobi is not inferior to its' sequels! It's the best Shinobi game there is! What are ya'll, crazy!?!

Too difficult for me to pick just one:
Gunstar Heroes was a fun Saturday evening shooter.
MUSHA is an amazing shooter and one of my top choices.
Bloodlines for challenge and overall polish.
Sonic for impact and theme
Revenge of Shinobi for graphics, sound, and a more adult theme.
Castle of Illusion for level design.
Overall, I'm torn between MUSHA, Bloodlines, and Sonic.
