ok guys, so besides these ports being a bitch to setup right... what about the quality of the game itself?
Are they superior to the Saturn versions? Can anyone explain in some detail?
I know some of them use 3D acceleration, while some only use the 2D software renderer.
On the right machine, do they have better frame rates than their Saturn counterparts? And are they worth acquiring if I already have he Saturn version.
That's what I would like to know =)
thanks,

i remember running sega rally on my 166mhz pentium MMX PC back in 1999 it ran okay in 8bit mode but 16bit got a bit slow, then sega released a MMX patch for the game and all of a sudden it ran great with full fluid motion. as for sonic cd, i would much rather play it on the sega cd then my 120mhz pentium thinkpad as it doesn't run that great.

I tend to agree. One of the reasons that some games don't work is that their coding is a little sloppy and Windows 9x was more forgiving on some elements of bad coding than NT based systems (usually with regards to memory management IIRC).
The most common problem I tend to find with old games is that their installers don't work on a 64bit OS.
OK, when it comes to Sonic R on PC, there are certain copies by developers that have no music, and others that do:
The ones distributed by SEGA have the music on the disc.
SOME of the ones distributed by Expert Software have the music. Namely the Activision ones.
The ones distributed by Activision (These say Expert Software on them as well), such as the Sonic 3D Blast/Sonic R Twin-Pack do NOT have the music.
I had two copies of Sonic R at one point that had identical discs that said Expert Software, one has the music, the other did not (I got rid of the copy without the music)
So be careful when you're buying copies of Sonic R for PC. Always go with the SEGA PC distributed version for surefire music.
Most of the Sega PC games that were ported from the Saturn are better than their Saturn counterparts.
Sonic R has much better controls, much smoother graphics, and added weather effects to the stages. Daytona USA Deluxe has extra tracks. Sega Rally Championship has better graphics on PC. But I hear the interface kind of sucks in comparison because of the DirectX drivers and the game defaulting to 640x480 resolution.
