Could you not have added to and/or bumped the almost identical thread you put on here 3 days ago?

Or are you hoping that nobody will see all the negative comments in the old thread?

    http://www.sega-16.com/forum/showthread.php?t=14021

While I'm sure plenty of people with more money than sense will jump at the chance to lay out $36 for 3 home made DVDs of someone else's games collection, filmed by Michael J Fox after a bag of crack, I wont be one of them I'm afraid.

I do not post here that often. I apologize for the double post by mistake. My apologies. I have sold these on other forums with positive success. This is more than just a bunch of videos showcasing stuff. These DVDs are very informative in helping fellow collectors out. I feel that I have something unique to offer. They were offered at Classic Gaming Expo 2010 and were sold out. While everyone has their right to express their opinion, I guess I was figuring that this site would be more receptive.

Sorry I'm not trying to be a prick or shit on your parade, I just think you're attempting to sell a rescource and information that is readilly available for nothing.

In 1995 I'd have probably snapped up some cassettes of something like this, but now there's the internet, and more importantly broadband it's all a handful of clicks away.

I wish you all the best with it anyway and I hope no offence has been taken.

    Mick.

What is offered on these DVDs is something that is not on youtube or anywhere else. Rare is someone who showcases complete Sega Collections...Sega CD, 32X, Sega Master System, and Sega Genesis, plus near complete collections of Dreamcast and Saturn. This is a "how to" collect DVD, and as I said before, was very receptive on other sites. I have sold through over 200 of these, that itself speaks volumes. Again, I respect if people feel that these are unnecessary. My customers who
have bought these have told me otherwise.

This is kind of silly. I mean, I can name four people off the top of my head that do this for free on Youtube that I'm subscribed to (MN12BIRD, lukemorse1, Gamester81, RetroGamerVX), and myself included. We all make the videos for free because we LOVE video games, and we love to show our hobby off with our years of collecting. I would never try to profit off of it. In fact, I would want my video's watchers to envy what we have, and try to do the same thing because it is such a rewarding and fun hobby.

That being said, this IS America, and I think it's in our blood to try and profit off of anything we can, so if you're able to make a sale, then good for you; you're ahead of all of us. Otherwise, I don't think there's anything worthwhile here. I could see all of what you're trying to sell on any of the four people's channels I talked about above.

Imo, I think you should cut up your DVD, and post the clips of it on your own Youtube channel, and try to gain subscribers. With enough subscribers, Youtube will give you a portion of the advertising revenue. That's the best way to profit from this.

So in essence, not to sound like an ass, but anyone who would buy this is a fool.

Why he probaly has enough fools to lazy to actualy do some work to find the free information out there. If there to lazy to look up the info that is free on the internet then they probaly wont amase a verry larg collection of video games buy pointless stuff like this.

It'd be cool to share this wealth of information with us Genesis fanatics for free instead of charging us for it. Look how excited everyone gets when someone takes a picture of the insides of a Genesis clone or one of those Tec Toy things.

Actually the DVD was mentioned on the All Gen Gamers Podcast Episode 3. I have made a DVD to help fund my hobby, and to share what I know and collect with others. All who have panned this DVD here have not seen it.

No but you've described exactly what your DVDs contain and linked us to previews on youtube, giving us more than enough information from their original author to make an informed oppinion.

Speaking for myself personally I'm neither a MasterSystem of MegaDrive 'collector' as such and only ever intend owning the titles I enjoy playing, albeit in minty fresh condition (I probably own 150 in all for both systems)
and as for you're "almost complete Saturn collection"goes, where I am sure it will provide a lot of interest to those just starting out (possibly not enough for them to drop $$ to see it) but I can view a complete Saturn collection by rotating my head thirty degrees to the left.

As I said before I wasnt trying to take a steamy great dump on your bonfire, and I wish you all the luck in the world.

You know, I have to say, I'm a bit disappointed by the rather trollish tone of some of the responses here. I peeked over here to see what the responses to my friend's vids were (didn't realize until yesterday there was a sega-specific forum), and was pretty irritated ant the quality of the posts. I joined up to respond to this.

Guys, some of you are being pretty rude here. I can quite understand if you don't want to buy the DVDs swlovinist is selling, but being insulting is really uncalled for, as is putting down his DVDs without actually seeing them.

Just so you know, swlovinist is not just some random guy making a vid. He is one of the biggest game collectors in the US. Don't believe me? Have a look at this: http://s268.photobucket.com/albums/jj28/swlovinist/

In fact, he has a complete, boxed Genesis Master System, Sega CD and 32x collection, as you can probably tell from the huge wall along the back of his garage. It's quite a sight. I know of no one who loves Sega more than he does. His knowledge of gaming history is encyclopedic. He put a lot of care into these videos.

And as far as 'doing things for free' to support the love of gaming, I am willing to bet he does a lot more than many do. He's one of the organizers of the Portland Retrogaming Expo (as am I). Believe me, we both give quite a lot of our personal time to promoting the hobby. Hundreds of hours a year, in fact.

And there is nothing wrong with producing a video to sell. He's spent dozens of hours filming these, and they are really quite good. They were very well received at the Portland Show, and at Classic Gaming Expo this year. Many of the popular youtube shows do exactly the same thing too, by the way, as Classic Gameroom HD sells videos for example. So do others. It's not a crime to sell something to support your collecting, you know.

Now, no one is forcing you to buy them of course, and I respect your opinions about doing things for free. But there's a difference between declining to buy something politely, and insulting the guy who made them. Comments about 'crack' and 'how soon will they be up on torrents' etc are just being unnecessarily rude, and frankly, this only accomplishes two things: it alienates potential members of your community (both swlovinist and myself in this case), and makes the entire forum look petulant and trollish.

Now maybe we've just gotten off on the wrong foot here. Both swlovinist and I have been wanting a Sega-specific community to join for awhile now. He's a Sega fanatic, as you can probably tell from the pics. I'm a big fan myself.

So, why the unnecessary rudeness people?

The 'rudeness' was initially from the fact that a 2nd thread about this was started 3 days after the first one.

As soon as we established that was an honest mistake I apologised for any offense taken, and will gladly do so again.
