    Default Cars.

The first car I ever owned and drove for about 8 years has passed on to the junkyard in the sky.

May Ol' Blue, The 1996 Oldsmobile Cutlass rust in peace.

So now I have to get a new one.

I drive an hour each way for work everyday. So I want something very economical. I also need something that accommodates my size, since I'm 6'6", not many compact cars work for me.

I've test driven a Camry, Corolla, A Nissan Versa and Sentra.

I was most comfortable in the Camry and Sentra.

    I've also considered a Ford Focus (2008, 2009, or 2010 model)

What should I get? I have a hard time making decisions like this and any help would be awesome!

Well I'm "completely" unbiased but the few hundred shares of Ford stock have say you should buy a 2011 ford of some kind.

My father drives a focus, and while it's not really my cup of tea I have to admit it's quick and ridiculously reliable.

Mrs. Lastcallhall and I rented a focus when we took a trip to Houston a couple years back for Wrestlemania 25 and we really liked it. Good gas mileage, quiet, and spacious.

I dig anything Honda/Acura the most. Have you test driven a new Accord or TSX?

I'm a Honda man at heart, but I anything with 4 wheels and an engine somehow intrigues me to varying degree.

My first car was a 1996 Ford Taurus GL, then a 2003 Pontiac Grand Am SE, and now a 2009 Hyundai Elantra Touring. Drive the shit out of it, just love it....has all the goodies I want, and then some.
The smell of scorched oil hangs in the air as a premonition of danger, while the engine gloriously shouts its war cry...

Yeah. I don't care what it is. I wanna know it's history, it's manufacturing ties, durability, utility, engine specs, suspension layout, etc.... LOL!

American cars are trash. I haven't had a problem with Honda Accord so far and it rides very well.

My elantra touring is pretty good even if you are big. compact yes, but roomy. Just don't get the base model as for 2010+ they really gimped it. I got it the first year it came out and I have no issues and it is nicely loaded for the money.

Ahh typical "American Cars are Trash" comments here we come.

It's so easy to say that.

Sure it's true most of the time but You know what? They actually have some decent cars right now.

There's nothing wrong with the new Focus. Mine got the shit beat out of it 24/7 and never broke. We can argue it's because it's mostly Mazda etc. The 2.0 and 2.3 Duratech engines and gearboxes in them are actually Mazda derived, the same ones used in the Mazda 3. Same chassis too. They have decent power bands making them easy to drive, more low end torque than some of the other 2.0L 4 cylinder cars I've driven including my Escort ZX2's 2.0L Zetec (basically the same engine in the Focus prior to 2005) witch has similar peak HP but much less low end torque. The gearing in the 5 speed is also much wider spread to make use of the torque and it feels much better on the highway thanks to it's lower RPM at cruising speed. The ride and handling is pretty good too. I test drove the Corolla and base model Civic in 2005 and ended up buying the Focus.

Get the Focus. You won't be disappointed.
