Default Metro 2033 (anyone played it?)

The reviews look pretty hit and miss. I see a 'lot' of complaints about the Shooting mechanic which looks to be the most important aspect of the game. Anyone care to share their experiences with it, either with the PC or 360 versions?

I see it was developed by a couple of the same guys that worked on the engine used in Stalker. I know Stalker has had its issues... hell, I waited years until it had been patched before diving into it and still, I never made it more than a couple hours in because of some weird difficulty issues (need to restart the game on easy, cuz medium is silly hard for me). I've seen Metro 2033 compared to Stalker a lot, so I expect it'll have that 'Russian made' feel to it... Stalker definitely feels different than all of the other shooters I own.

Anyhoot, it looks like a neat and atmospheric/linear experience. I was thinking that if I ever buy a 360, it'd be cool to grab for that system for $30. What say y'all?

Also, to anyone who's played it on the PC with current hardware... what are the DX11 features all about? Anything special?

    thks

    Demo (2.94 GB!!)

I wanted to get this before Singularity (which I recently finished, took me a couple of sessions) but not keen on dark corridor FPSs at the moment. Not as great as S.T.A.L.K.E.R. from the looks of it but then few games are.

It's good, but it is different from S.T.A.L.K.E.R., but that game is in a class of it's own.The graphics are awesome if you have a DX11 card. Were you planning to play it on the 360 or the PC, if it's the former then I can't recommend it.The game wasn't made with the 360 in mind so there are some issues. If it's for the PC, i'd say go ahead.

    Less talk more action!

I bought a Palit GTX460 Sonic (1GB oc edition) a couple of weeks ago, so Metro 2033 was a no brainer for me. The DX11 graphics are pretty sweet, but so far I haven't seen enough to separate this title from DX10 titles I've played.

The fps areas I've played so far are very average, with nothing that really stands out. The safepoint areas really don't give you enough clues on what is needed to advance to the next level, so it can get a little boring.
A Black Falcon: no, computer games and video games are NOT the same thing. Video games are on consoles, computer games are on PC. The two kinds of games are different, and have significantly different design styles, distribution methods, and game genre selections. Computer gaming and console (video) gaming are NOT the same thing."

I was planning on 'maybe' pickin it up 'if' I ever got a 360.

As far as DX11 goes.... I never thought much of DX10... DX11 will probably be what 10 should have been. Still though, not enough of a difference imo.

I mean... yeah, it's neat n all, but meh... it's not the same leap from DX8 to 9.

IDTech 4 came out in 2004. "top notch/current gen" games today don't look miles better than what was available in '04 imo.

Character geometry is a lot tighter with DX11. If you look at a game like Oblivion, you can see they are covering up boxy models with nice texture mapping, bump mapping and shaders. DX10's biggest advantage seems to be environmental with things like swirling winds and particle movement.

If I wasn't on my iPhone, I'd post the YouTube video that shows the difference between DX9 and DX10 with Lost Planet.

Has graphic development peaked somehow or is there not much incentive to go all-out with new engines? I think current consoles still hold up pretty well albeit with the low resolution of 720p, DirectX 11-level machines won't bring much to the table.

720P is NOT a low resolution. An example of a low resolution would be 640x480.

I hear you... 'but still'... it's simply no where neeeeear the same LEAP of advancement that Direct X8-9 made... not even close.

DX8 to DX9 is like NES to SNES/etc.

DX9 to DX10 is like Doom 3 to Crysis. They're not worlds apart like the former comparison (least in my opinion).

Oh I forgot about that game. I saw it for sale on PC when it came out but it was too expensive. It did look really good though.

Give it a year or two.. it'll be $30 or less at stores... Ebay'll probably get there first though. I'm thinking Half Price Books'll get it in the next year and it'll be their standard $7.98 sealed, lol. It's an overseas game so it's definitely a solid candidate for HPB.

What I find baffling is the $49.99 Steam price-tag. Surely transfering the game over TCP/IP is far less expensive than distributing it the old fashioned way?

Someone told me Metro2033 was on sale for $12 on steam a week or so ago. I picked up in the clearance section at Target for $23.
