YouTube CryEngine 2 vs CryEngine 3

Looks pretty damn good considering it's running on hardware from '06!!! The main things killing the Console versions are the weak draw distance and lack of AA. I'll NEVER understand why Microsoft and Sony didn't wait 'a bit' longer so they could use Video Cards with twice the memory.

cool vid though, was definitely an interesting watch

Hopefully it is more optimized this time...
The smell of scorched oil hangs in the air as a premonition of danger, while the engine gloriously shouts its war cry...

Throughout history, suspicion has always bred conflict. The real conflict, though, resides in people's hearts. This conflict has just begun.

You're talking about the PC version? January of '08, brand new Q6600 at stock 2.4 running an 88GT at stock speeds:

1280x1024 w/2xAA, V-Sync, and Maxed everything in DX9 (except for... don't remember, but I had one option turned down a single notch from maximum... maybe it was shadows... don't remember.)

Never felt like it was under 60 FPS to me... never ran any software to test the frames either. There were some spots that slowed down to 20-30 momentarily, but I blame the ooooooooooold 169.21 Nvidia drivers (still using those btw, lol). From what I read, the 190series and onward enhanced the Framerate of the Cry engine a great deal.

You wanna share your experience, David? Did you try to play Crysis on crappy hardware?

I heard Crysis Warhead was better optimized but never played it. The original Crysis runs pretty well on my 512MB Radeon HD4870 though. I can run it in x64 bit mode, DX10 on High with 8x AA @720p and get like 45FPS average or something like that. Perfectly playable and smooth enough.

The console engine has definitely been tweaked pretty well. I mean yeah the draw distance sucks, the AA sucks, some of the textures aren't as good and some of the physics too. But I have to admit at first glance I didn't even notice that you couldn't see the trees on the far side of the river. It's like a lot of things that someone has to point out for you to notice. It's those small details that people might not realize make the PC version so much more advanced because honestly the average person isn't going to notice them anyway.

Warhead is still sealed... I've yet to play through the entire original game so.

Agreed Disagreed... please speak for yourself.

The 'first' thing I noticed on the Console version was the weak Draw Distance... it really brings the immersion down a great deal.

Either someone else needs to enter the Console market with an upgradeable PC or Micro and Sony need to make their next systems upgradeable because making shortcuts like this only takes away from their capabilities to make a fantastic looking/feeling/breathing product.

I said the average person for a reason. I'm quite sure if you show the average gamer the PC version and the console version they'll barely notice any differences at all.

Ah, you did make that distinction. Well... I agree with you, you're most likely right. There are more important things than educating todays gamers but it would be NICE if everyone knew how many shortcuts were being taken with their "next gen" gaming experiences and $60 price tags.

I'd looooove to see Microsoft and Sony lose a lot of money because of the BS they've pulled with these two latest consoles... in the hopes that they came back strong with fantastic and well rounded lil PC wannabe Products for their next creations.

But the way things have been going the last 5 years... since people eat up mediocrity, they will simply be catered to by having more and more mediocre products (dressed up to look like A+ products) designed for them in the future.
