    Default Sports Games = Bad?

For years I've fallen into the stereotype of "Sports Games Suck." I remember this bin of SNES/NES/Genesis games at a local Game Crazy with only sports games. I know some sports games are expensive but may not be good. However, I feel like I'm missing out by not playing some sports games on the Genesis because of the boring nature of most of them.

Basically this is a cry for help asking which sports games on the Genesis are worth playing for some one who typically does not like sports games.

Sports Games are NOT bad, due to contrary belief. They're just passed over due to their common nature. The best sports games on Genesis are:

John Madden Football '93 Championship Edition
    Sports Talk Baseball
    Tommy "Fucking" Lasorda Baseball
    NBA Jam
    NBA Jam T.E
    NBA Hangtime

Wha...? You forgot the best one of them all: the NHL series. '94 and '96 in particular. As well as:

Best tennis game: Pete Sampras Tennis '96
Best footie game: Sensible Soccer (arcade style) or International Superstar Soccer Deluxe (sim style)

Also, Arnold Palmer's Tournament Golf. If you enjoy that.
I think that about covers it.
I recommend skipping every other basketball game, except for NBA Jam T.E. since it is by far the best one.
Madden '92 and '93 are both really good. As for baseball: I have no fucking clue since I hate it, so go with whatever Baloo's recommended.

I did forget '94, I have that for Sega CD. Challenging game, but very fun.

Brett Hull Hockey '95 is pretty much the only 16-bit Sports game I care about(and sorry, I have to say the Super NES version is better; it's not as "dead" as the Genesis version and the announcer sounds SO much better). I have a lot of fun with it even though I hardly score any goals. And there's always one match-up I like to do: Quebec Nordiques vs. Montreal Canadiens. I sure hope Quebec manages to bring back the Nordiques; I was too young when the Nordiques were around to see the Montreal/Quebec rivalry. In the meantime, I'll just use Brett Hull Hockey '95 to tide me over.

The other Sports games make me angry because that's pretty much EVERYTHING that's left of Genesis games and compose a major part of Super NES games in used video game shops, pawn shops and flea markets. Seriously, is that all people bought back then? Or are those people just little f***ers, keep the good games to themselves and get rid of their unwanted Sports crap?

Do like the Genesis Does commercial:

Get Joe Montana free, Buster Douglas free, Pat Riley free, Super Monoco GP free, or Columns free!

Or practically for free! And it's not Genesis, but the SNES version of MLBPA Baseball also sells for peanuts and it's the very best, most realistic looking/feeling 16 bit baseball game you'll ever find, yet it gets hardly any attention at all.

Sport games aren't relly bad it is just they become worthless after a year most. Like a year after madden 93 was released then you get madded 94 boom who cares about madden 93. It is not that there bad there released so offen so frequestly they can being leabled as bad do to be basicly worthless.

Sports games are to Rottenbeard, a load of shit. Take the same formula, revamped graphics and change the names and year and call it a game, is a fucking pathetic waste of money. But for the kids who want player X with an additional passing stat lap this shit up like anti-freeze at a petting zoo.

You're not missing out, you're being smart by buying the next exciting action game with alternating enemies/plots as opposing to kicking a ball from one human to another human.

Since the Mega Drive is pretty much dead. The best sports game should be apparent. But don't for a minute try to apply those bullshit commandments to current/future consoles.

The only MD sports games I've enjoyed playing at all are NBA, Dodge Danpei (Jp), Sensible Soccer, and Pete Sampras. I also have a strange liking for Paddle Fighter and the golf game on the Mega CD Games Can discs.

Also a good few racing games, if they count. (I tend not to count them as "sports games" though.)

Oh, and cheesy Olympics style mini-games type collections - Winter / Summer Challenge, Aquatic Games, etc

My favorite sports games on the Genesis are (in no particular order):

Bill Walsh College Football (and BWCF '95)
NHL '94, '96 - AND NHL '94 for Sega CD
    Sports Talk Baseball
    World Series Baseball '95
    Tecmo Super Bowl
Tecmo Super Bowl III: Final Edition

Take it from me, the Sports Authority!
Sega-16's Resident Sports Authority. Chief Heckler of the Midwest.

    Next up on the tee:
    Tecmo Super Bowl III
    Bass Masters Classic
