Pink Justifier both working and not working

For a while now, my pink Justifier has not worked at all. I tried it today and have found out that the start button works on the menu screen. The trigger doesn't seem to work at all. The start buttons does work in-game.

I noticed that there seems to be options right away on the main menu. Are these actually options and can they be changed? I can't seem to change them or affect then in any way. This being the problem seems unlikely to me, though.

Not too long ago, I had my techie brother take a look at innards of the pink Justifier. He said it was perfectly fine and there was no wear on it. He did not check the blue one, though, which lead me to believe that there's some loose or broken wire or dirty contacts or something in the blue one.

So, I carefully opened it up and removed the main circuit board. I noticed that some of the circuits/lines seem to be rather worn and there's what appears to be dust or dirt of some sort stuck on it.

So, the problem probably lies in that. Sorry I can't get a picture of it. It seems no room in my house has decent lighting and I haven't a usable camera. The dirt/dust is very close, but not touching, the Konami chip on the bottom of the circuit board (the side with no wires, I assume) with the Konami logo on the chip right side up and horizontal. The dust/dirt spans from the line by the closest solder point to the right to the fourth line from the right connected to the chip.

I hope my round about way of stating the problem is sufficient enough. I have a feeling all the thing needs is cleaning. If so, with what should I clean it?

If you absolutely need a picture, you'll have to wait until there's daylight here since my house seems to have terribly lighting or lighting that doesn't want to work with my crappy camera. I may be able to muster up a simple drawing, but that's it.

EDIT: After a bit more fiddling, it seems that the blue Justifier fires both for it and the pink one. The screen flashes for the blue when the blue's trigger is pressed, the screen flashes for the pink when the blue's trigger is pressed.
