Default Hack World Cup Italia '90

Hello everybody, I'm an Italian boy who loves football and especially the World Cup of Italy 1990.

There is a not-so-good game for Sega Megadrive, World Cup Italia 90, but it's not so close to the World Cup itself, I'd like to know if it could be possible edit the rom (It's legal because I've got the Cartridge... at least 4 cartridges ) text.

At first I'd like to edit players name to the real ones

So, I found a cheat (but I don't remember where ) that can unlock other teams (!!!) but I never tried it, there's somebody who tried it?

Because, if it's possible, I cuold be (but it's difficult I think) cool insert the real groups of the world cup!

What tools do you suggest me to edit Genesis ROMs' text?

This is the cheat I found

    Select other countries:
Turn on the system and quickly press C, B, A(2) when the "argh!" sound is heard. The sound will play again to confirm correct code entry.

    Does it work?

Editing a ROM would not be legal without consent from the game creators. Also, all the hacking in the world wouldn't stop World Cup Italia '90 from being a tosh 1-player game.

Hacking genesis roms is very difficult because unlike other systems, even simple games uses some sort of compression scheme.

Why don't you try the code and tell us if it works?

Use a hexadecimal editor and make a relative search for players names (visit romhacking.net for more info)

No. If you buy the Mona Lisa and decided to paint her a mustache and a nice hat, you could do that. It's yours, you bought it.
The Mega Drive was far inferior to the NES in terms of diffusion rate and sales in the Japanese market, though there were ardent Sega users. But in the US and Europe, we knew Sega could challenge Nintendo. We aimed at dominating those markets, hiring experienced staff for our overseas department in Japan, and revitalising Sega of America and the ailing Virgin group in Europe.

Then we set about developing killer games.

ROM hacking is legal. The only things to remember are:

    You must have the cartridge

You don't have to use characters with copyright

I couldn't make Ristar with Sonic The Hedgehog as character but I could edit the game itself if I had the cartridge

That's just all wrong. Owning it doesn't make it any more legal. I dunno if that logic is coming from sites you read that say it's legal to have ROMs just because you own the original cart also, but everything is in the gray area and isn't completely exempt from going against the law somehow.

But in this day and age this stuff is so old anyways, no one cares. Still, it gets ridiculous seeing people still try to come up with some sort of twisted logic anyways. You just know you were gonna hack it regardless of any sort of laws

    editing Italia90? cool but useless.
The single player mode is a joke. The computer is easely beaten.
The multiplayer mode is great, and I prefer it over every other football based game on the megadrive. (Italia90 is no football game, the gameplay has nothing to do with a game of football)
Its allways fun to play the multiplayer. But there I don't care about the names...

I think you should check the legal stuff. You cannot do that to Mona Lisa, well, you can, but the Hammer of Justice will hit you pretty hard.

Also, you should check what do you buy. You not own the game (that the developer or the publisher) but a license to play it, nothing more. But i hope that not stop to you to change the game...

Guys, we are not talking about a license to distribute the game / copies of the Mona Lisa. We are talking about YOUR own copy. You can do whatever the fuck you want to do with it.

Copyright and patents do not affect what you do with your personal copy.

You could hack it and distribute patches that contained only your own code/graphics/sounds.

    - or if we stick with the Mona Lisa example: If I painted her a mustache and a funny hat I could produce stickers of those that people could stick on their own copies of the Mona Lisa.

So if they preferred to have their ML with only the mustache or only the hat, they could do just that:

It's highly doubtful a seriously famous game that's over 20 years old still has such an easy hidden code, man. Unreal, even.

Geez, Italia 90.. half of the male part of my generation still sighs in nostalgy upon hearing that name. Pure epic.

Actually not, it isn't difficult the existence of unheard/ new codes. Not so long ago I made a thread called "cheats forgotten by time" where I showed new codes for games like Sonic (already hacked to death) and Truxton (the code is almost a precursor to guitar hero).

There is a code for a secret team and to see the credits in the game "Super Volleyball" but it was literally lost in translation as there are much more characters to choose from in the password screen of the japanese version.

    "Seriously famous"?

The only thing good about WCS was the close-up stills which I admit were pretty spiffy for 1989.
