Question Xbox vs. PS2: Which NON-exclusive games do you prefer for which system?

    First Games in Question:

    • X-Men Legends
    • X-Men Legends 2

    This should be fun:

Is this even an issue, btw? I think that these are the two systems that started the whole "if it's not exclusive, it's all the same game/system" issue. Sure, we could go back to the times of pong, when clones were being made left and right . But still, I'd love to know what non-exclusive games you guys/gal(s?) prefer on what system.

P.S.> Don't mind the Dreamcast or the Gamecube on this instance. . I'm sure that many of you are like me, and if it came out on the DC, you'll get it on the DC regardless. The same might even be true of hardcore Nintendo fans. On that same note, there will be another thread on those later on anyways.

P.S.S.> The reason for this thread is that I've fallen in love with my Xbox all over again (the same way I did with my PS2 not too long ago).

P.S.S.S.> Also, seriously though, JADE EMPIRE + KINGDOM UNDER FIRE: HEROES bundle is selling for $5.00 w/ free SnH off of eBay right now. I mean, come on! Where else (for what system) are you going to find such an awesome library of ultra cheap titles, brand new?

MY ANSWER for the first two games:

I went for the Xbox versions simply because I bought the Xbox version of part 1 earlier on, and now I've ordered part 2 sealed on the Xbox as well. There was no other reason to get it on the Xbox but the simple fact that I wanted them to match.

Hmm... I don't really care for the XBox, so can I be the first one to prefer the GameCube versions?

Well the big thing for me was already having an HDTV with an Xbox and a PS2. So Xbox looked alot better than most of the PS2 games. One that come to mind... Matrix: Path of Neon. Looked like ass on PS2, and so amazing on Xbox!

I usually go for the Xbox versions of games. They look better, the Xbox controller is made out of awesome, and 480p. Can't ask for much more.

Also, are there certain games you're curious about?

I can tell you right now that the Mega Man Anniversary Collection is fantastic on the Xbox. Aside from glorious 480p (I'm not sure if the PS2 version supports that resolution), it also has better extras over the PS2 version.

Taito Legends also seems to run certain games much more smoothly on the Xbox than the PS2. One game that runs noticeably smoother is Volfied.

Almost everything is better on Xbox. The only major exceptions I know of are MGS2 Substance and Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2.

Initially, I was more of an Xbox kind a guy. But now, I've moved to the PS2 as my choice favorite. But still, the balance holds true to some extent. Had there been more Xbox titles available still, I'd probably be half and half.

I still remember getting my Xbox for the sole purpose of playing Shenmue II. It was to many of us hardcore Sega fans, back then, the spiritual successor to the DC and the one competitor to the one who killed it (the PS2). All of that, again, is non-sensical yapping, of course. The systems have yielded ~1000 and 2000 games respectively (many exclussives on either end). I choose not to include the DC or GC on this issue simply for two reasons:

    1. The DC is GD Rom Based. It died too soon. And I will be getting the games on it, regardless, eventually (as many of us here will).

    2. The GC is never going to hold as much game content as the Xbox or PS2. There have been talks about the superior graphics exherted by it, however. But I find these negligible compared to the library itself (and I don't mean that the GC had a small library. ~650 is a whole lot of games, imo. But I do mean that soon after their release, most of the exclusives weren't so exclusive anymore. Heck, even nintendo did it to itself by re-relesing the darn games on the Wii. And it's not like re-releasing GoW1 and 2 on the PS3 for sake of improved graphics, it's just for the sake of selling more of the GC game on the Wii just because everyone has a Wii ).

At any rate. I do notice that X-Men Legends 1 and 2 did make it to the GC, so if that's a choice you guys want to opt for, I'm cool with that too . It's just that I'd love to infer from this a true dividend between the Xbox and PS2 Verions...

...and I completely agree with the graphics. Just thinking about watching movies on an Xbox vs a PS2; I've always found the PS2 movies to have a darker, more obscure tone, while the Xbox is crisp and nitid.

Oh yeah, definitely. The smaller storage capacity not withstanding, the Gamecube is way more talented than the PS2, graphically.

This is probably the best comparison I can think of. But damn if the GC version doesn't blow the pants off of the PS2 version.

I never knew how ugly the PS2 version was,if the GC had used DVDs it would have been amazing.I only went with the PS2 on THPS games and fighting games, otherwise it was GC/Xbox.

i've never played either of the xmen games, but for me theres certain games I prefer on each system that were multiplatform:

    xbox versions:

    tony hawks pro skater 3
    tony hawks pro skater 4
    tony hawks underground
    tony hawks underground 2
    tony hawks american wasteland

I prefer all of those over the ps2 versions because you can add your own custom soundtrack to each of those games for the xbox, I know it's a minor thing but it really adds to the tony hawk games. also another reason I prefer those on the xbox is because they seem a bit easier to play with the xbox controller (I use the controller s model or a wireless microcon) other then those few though, I usually stick with the ps2 stuff since it's alot easier to find these days.

but for 2d compilations and fighting games I stick with the ps2 because there are alot of aftermarket controllers that you can get that are retro inspired, like the ps2 sega saturn pad or the ps2 neo geo pad. plus if anything happens to the ps2 they are stilll easily replaceable and can still be bought brand new at stores like bestbuy, target, walmart, toysrus.

And one thing the Xbox has over both is universal ED/HDTV support with 480p or higher in all games selectable in the BIOS/system settings. (unlike GC which is toggled in-game or at startup and only some games support progressive and none over 480p, though some still have better graphics than the Xbox versions or fewer bugs)

Or they could have simply used more discs... (and GC does use DVDs, just mini DVDs without dual layer support; with dual layer it should have been 2.5 GB rather than 1.4)
6 days older than SEGA Genesis

So a game with 2 GC discs is only 2.8 GB.Why did they bother with the smaller discs?Besides load times what were some of the advantages?

It was a piracy prevention. It wasn't so easy to find those mini DVDs.
A Black Falcon: no, computer games and video games are NOT the same thing. Video games are on consoles, computer games are on PC. The two kinds of games are different, and have significantly different design styles, distribution methods, and game genre selections. Computer gaming and console (video) gaming are NOT the same thing."
