Default Axterix / Master System - What do you think?

Just got this bundled in with a master system converter & mega drive off Egay .

Anybody played this? I hardly owned any master system games BITD and i know there's some bad ones.

Played through the first level so far - it seems like sonic 1 meets kid chameleon lol It does say 1991 on the title screen, so makes sense.

Obelix is awesome with the brick pummeling!

Asterix is one of the best SMS game!!! I really like it. Hard and long, as should be Megadrive's one, is weird... (at last the first one, i didnt play the second one)

Kid Chameleon is from Summer '92 if I remember correctly, and developed in the US.

But back on topic: Asterix on SMS is one of the best games on the platform. There's a little known sequel released two years later which is equally superb: Asterix and the Secret Mission

These were made by Sega of Japan, while Asterix and the Great Rescue and Power of the Gods were made by Core Design and both are just terrible. Avoid at all cost.

The Mega Drive was far inferior to the NES in terms of diffusion rate and sales in the Japanese market, though there were ardent Sega users. But in the US and Europe, we knew Sega could challenge Nintendo. We aimed at dominating those markets, hiring experienced staff for our overseas department in Japan, and revitalising Sega of America and the ailing Virgin group in Europe.

Then we set about developing killer games.

I liked the Asterix game on the Genesis... well the one that came to the USA anyway. Think Europe got one or two others. Nowhere nearly as good as the first two PAL games.

The first one is one of my fav SMS games and I own it too. Along with the sequel.
The smell of scorched oil hangs in the air as a premonition of danger, while the engine gloriously shouts its war cry...

Throughout history, suspicion has always bred conflict. The real conflict, though, resides in people's hearts. This conflict has just begun.

I also got this recently off eBay and have been playing it on my Power Base Converter. I agree the MD ones suck and the SMS ones are much better. I am getting closer to beating this game and like it very much.

There are 2 Asterix MS games and they're both really good plattformers!
Anyone with a MS or a converter should get'em.

There's 3. But the third one is not worth mentioning.
Bare Knuckle III rules! Also, the music in this game is freakin awesome.

son show some respect for this game
this one does the comics justice
this is the best asterix game on any console
my reason to buy a sms

played this game to death it s a little to easy but so great and great tunes
asterix and the secret mission was good but it lacks some action and some great tunes
and asterix and the great resceu well it s better then the megadrive version cause that one sucks donkey dick in a bad way
and sms version is better on any front then that game

but ghostbusters sucks on the sms megadrive version is still the best

The first one on Master System is a classic, the 2nd one is fairly fun but very unpolished, its a rush port from Game Gear I think, either that or they just released it before it was finished (the game speed goes up and down like a yo-yo every other second) seeing that everything is so zoomed out and the sprite is small I tend to think the first option (Game Gear port) is the most likely.

The 3rd one is decent but is more of a puzzle platforming game with less emphasis on action.

For me, it's the best 8-bits platform game.
