Default Will Gamecube boot on a Wii without a Gamecube controller?

    Hey guys,

I sold a guy a Gamecube game (Megaman Anniversary Collection) that I tested on my GC and it worked fine, but he says it doesn't work. I think he has a Wii, though.

I'm just wondering...I know you need GC controllers to play GC games on the Wii, but will they boot up fine w/o GC controller plugged into the port? Maybe I can help him get it figured out before he ships it back to me.

    thanks

    Sean

I'll test that tonight, but it should boot fine. Just as if it's a gamecube with no controller plugged in. Game will boot, but will ask you to plug in a controller. He probably has a softmod Wii, and he screwed up the Gamecube loading. If that's the case, he can boot it as if it's a gamecube-backup disc in the Backup Launcher!

Cool. Thank you. I appreciate that!

I know the game works, but it does have scratches...it's also possible that his console just doesn't read it quite as well as mine. I have yet to get a Wii...I'll wait till I find one at a yard sale ;-)

Well, I suggested that the guy try to put a GC controller in his Wii and it solved the problem! He was ready to ship it back to me. He's super happy that we figured it out. I wouldn't have thought that they wouldn't boot w/o the controller...

i'm not sure why nintendo did that with the wii, it kinda limits the options of which controllers can be used.

Yeah, and you'd think you'd be able to use the classic controllers but no...

yeah it would have been very useful for those who don't own a wireless gamecube controller and don't want to deal with cords.

For me, I could always boot GC games by using the Wiimote to start the GC channel. It would boot, but you'd need the GC controller once it asks if you want progressive scan or not.
