Right on, thanks. I have the installation points, but I've never taken apart a PS1 before.
Sure. There are also diagrams at eurasia here:

But you have to have an account to view them and I can't remember my login :-/
I'm torn between modding my "real" PS1 or my PSOne. For space reasons, I may do the little one and put the other one away. My two-year-old says he likes the "little one" better anyways ;-)
BTW, it doesn't take much to create and acct...just a user name and email address. I just did and logged in within a few seconds.
I've seen a tutorial for the slim on youtube looks fairly easy
I installed a MM3 just a couple months ago into a 5501 PS1, install went easy enough. Much easier than any PS2 Modchip install!
Worked fine when testing Castlevania: SOTN and others.
Well, I tore a trace right off of the motherboard! It was a SCPH-9001 model, very compact, so it looked like it was slimmed down. Not only were the solder points the size of pinheads, there were jumpers on them to boot! Made it down right near impossible to install. Oh well, lesson learned. I might look at the 5501 and see what the difference is.
Oh, man that's a bummer. Does it still work? It looked like the solder points were tiny. I wonder if the PSOne is even worse?
I didn't even bother - there's a store near me that sells the console only for 5 bucks each, so I figured I'd get a different model to try. I originally got the 9001 series because of it's durability over the older models with regard to the lens assembly, but I'm going to see if I can transplant the lens into an older model and go with that. I can only assume the PSOne is just as bad or worse - the board is about 6"x9" on the 9001.
Edit: After looking at the other model's install points, they all include installation on the same type of points. I don't have a soldering iron or wire that precise at the moment; I'll have to go to radio shack and see what I can find. I'll need 30 AWG wire and an extra fine tip soldering iron. This one is going on the backburner for the time being.
