    Default Getting a PS2: Few questions

    Hey!

    I just got an awesome deal! A friend accepted to sell me his PS2 Slim with a controller (Maybe with a memory card, don't know) and a few games (The only one he know is Sims)... for only 30$!
    Just because he only play to his XBox 360 and don't use his PS2 anymore!

    Of course, it also come with the cables, I have a few questions about the PS2 for now;

    I wonder if I can change the DVD Region from 1 to 2? I already have a DVD Player Region 0, but if it break one day... And I won't use a PS2 as a DVD Player often, it'll be better and more useful if I can change the Region. Can I do this on a used system?

    Second (and last) question. About the PS1 games, would a burned PS1 game work in a PS2 Slim?

    Thanks!

    Nope, can't change the DVD region without a hack, I don't think. You will also need a mod to play burned ps1 discs. You could get one of the flip top lid things and get a boot disc that will let you swap to burned games. I use mine with swap magic for burned PS2 games, but a different disc is required for PS1 stuff.

    You can use an Action Replay for PS1 as a boot disk for burned PS1 games, much like you'd use Swap Magic, but you'd still need a swap tool and I'm not quite sure how that works for a PS2 Slim.

    As for region free DVD playback, there are DVD Region Free discs out there that you can just put in the PS2, it'll reboot and you can swap it out normally for a video DVD. I used to have one of those, but for some reason it broke one day.

    Thanks, I'll see about that disk;
    As for the PS1, I could still buy one, they are even cheaper than Dreamcasts.
    If I'm not wrong, someone wanted to sell me his PS1 for 10-15$!

    They are pretty cheap- I picked up mine w/ all cables and 2 controllers for $3 at a church sale. While I could use my PS2 for PS1 games, I figure the PS1 is an affordable way of reducing wear and tear on the PS2.

    The PS2 is such a lousy DVD player. What's the latest word on HD loaders? Mine's been chipped for years but if someone asked me whether a modchip was needed to play games from the HD without ESR I could use knowing the answer beforehand!
