    Default 60GB PS3 or a modded PS2

I pawned my 360 early this year and while I wanted to get a new slim one i'm not so keen on paying M$ fees to play online on XBL. Macross for the PS2 price has dropped down to being very reasonable now. And even that bad import Transformers game price is ok. I was wondering how does the PS3 handled imported games. I'm pretty sure it's a region lockout right? But yeah I don't want to buy a PS2 then buy a slim PS3.

I have seen this on CL http://nashville.craigslist.org/ele/2055848178.html but I don't have any free money right now (car issues ) and i'm sure it's gone

Sony are genuine assholes for not letting go of legacy region lockout for PS1/2 games. If I were you: Phat PS2 + HDLoader, end of story.

PS3 thanks to its filtering option crushes PS2 in looks on an average HDTV whose built in scaler isn't very good. Virtual memory cards are less hassle too.

Except you lose compatibility with countless accessories that require a PS2 controller port. Near impossible to make PS1/2 imports or backups run. I've also heard Pocketstation mode doesn't work on PS3...

This - while PS3 games don't have a region restriction, the PS3 still honors the region restrictions for PS2 and PS1 games.

All the pics I saw of the PS2 adding filtering to PS1 games, and of PS3 adding filtering to PS2 games - were pretty lame. I didn't think the extra filtering did anything positive to the original images.

Oops, I guess my memory is a bit fuzzy. I kind of suspect (a long shot) 80gb might've had better scaling or whatever than 60gb. But if so it wasn't worth the compatibility issues. And I didn't own them side by side to check.
