As long as it really is in good shape, it's a good deal for a BC PS3 with all the controllers and cables.

Yeah, I agree. That's a good deal I think.
The Mega Drive was far inferior to the NES in terms of diffusion rate and sales in the Japanese market, though there were ardent Sega users. But in the US and Europe, we knew Sega could challenge Nintendo. We aimed at dominating those markets, hiring experienced staff for our overseas department in Japan, and revitalising Sega of America and the ailing Virgin group in Europe.
Then we set about developing killer games.

I think it sounds like a horrible deal. I feel sorry for those who bought the originals... honestly, now that the Slims are around, the original Consoles are worthless imo because their internal structure/hardware is out of date with what's current.
The current slim models run cooler, use less power, and are better designed. M. & S. pretty much screwed everyone who tries to resell their original purchase because that hardware is outdated and useless now.
If you're going to spend $300... spend it on a brand new Slim 160 GBer. Or go ahead and buy an outdated/used P3 fat for $300... the choice is yours.
Like has been said, as long as it "is" actually in good shape, It's a pretty good deal(especially since It's BC).
PS. However, unless you want/need a blu-ray player, I would pass on the PS3 all together(It's more useful for the Blu-ray player, then it is for games).
I heard the PS3 Blu-Ray player actually works better then any stand alone blu-ray player.
Looks like a good deal

Yeah, I would say the whole backwards compatibility thing is the real deal maker here.
Just got the machine and the guy threw in the kitchen sink though I could do without the GT2. I wanted to get a another 360 but since i'm not really to keen on XBL play to play, MS use of proprietary hardware. I can use ANY 2.5 HD rather than by MS overpriced ones. And I think I can use any bluetooth headset and any USB controller (that Saturn USB controller is the SHIZNIT.) imma miss Halo but FUCK M$.
Some people have consoles that still work, others are ticking time bombs, so it all depends on the unit.
The 60gig PS3 is the ultimate game console. It plays PS3, PS2 and PSone games. There's maybe 2 PS2 games I know of, that don't work with it, because of a lack of support for the accesories. Those games are Taiko Drum Master and a jacked up Guitar Hero 2.
The 60gig PS3 has more resale value than any of the other model of the system, because of it's BC capabilities.
A Black Falcon: no, computer games and video games are NOT the same thing. Video games are on consoles, computer games are on PC. The two kinds of games are different, and have significantly different design styles, distribution methods, and game genre selections. Computer gaming and console (video) gaming are NOT the same thing."
I spent $175 for my Fat PS3 60gig (backward compatible) off of craigslist. The PS3 is a little beatup, but I don't care, it works great! No problems. I took a PS1, PS2, and bought a PS3 game just so when I got to the guys house I could try them all out. It came with 2 wireless controllers. That was 5 months ago, and it's still running strong!
I can't see the post anymore but assume that you picked up a PS3 BC for $300, that is near the average price I see for them around this area so still not a "Bad Deal".
My brother had one and the optical unit went out on it after a short while and he exchanged it.
I'd say at this point since it has no warranty I'd open the unit up and clean out all the dust, clean the lense, then pull the heatsinks up and apply some better thermal past before problems get a chance to get worse since the older units are affected by the lead free solder ball joints breaking apart and heat just helps it along!
I thought about a used PS3, I eventually had around $35 promotional credit from amazon and picked up the PS3 Slim 160GB just as it released on the market. From there I found a deal on the 2yr warranty plan on the Playstation store for 44.99 (regularly 59.99) if you had Playstation Plus. I picked up a 3month plan for $18 then bought that plan so I effectively get a 3yr warranty. After all said and done I'm happy.
Anybody know how good those SNK PS2 games are? I liked the MS Anthology for the PSP though ther load times were bit to bad.
