^I'm still jealous of that rig. Why can't I have access to nice stuff like that? Out here even something as simple as a case is really hard to get ahold of (more so for a good price).

I still have my Voodoo 5 5500, wish I had one of the Voodoo 6 prototypes:
Quad processor SLI + Glide mmmmmm WIN!

i've rescued some 3Dfx cards from the dumpster lately.
when i was little, my parents bought me a 3Dfx card for christmas (Voodoo2? i can't remember...) it was outstanding, i had it mounted on a Compaq Presario 5060 with an AMDK6-2 at 333Mhz, 96MB RAM and a 4MB integrated Ati Rage LT Pro, a BigFoot 4GB HDD (a weird big noisy thing bulky as a cd unit, i wonder why...), i still remember how fun was play Unreal, Unreal Tournament, Need For Speed 3... the last high end game i've played on that pc was Need For Speed Porsche Unleashed(Porsche2000 in europe). god, it was the most intense racing game i've ever played, i miss those times. Since then, NFS series sucked hard.
Awesome build! You just made me pull the trigger on a Soundblaster 64AWE Gold (untested) for $14.98
I also spotted a K6-3 550!! Pricing isn't that bad since it is soo rare. I Built both of mine with Coppermine 1GHz, and a Tualatin 1.13GHz Pentium 3's. I wasn't all about being time period specific, just wanted something that was enough to out do most of the games of the time.

I have a Jetway Super socket 7 mobo, I had a K6-2 450MHz on it, I dropped my very first cpu into it which was a Pentium 1 166MMX chip (I still have it!) for fun and was messing with the clocks, I got it to overclock to 250MHz and I swear it felt faster and better running than the K6-2 450!
That guy's been selling the 550s for awhile now. He put a bunch up as traditional auctions and they sold for about $40. Then he stopped for awhile. A few weeks ago he had one up with a buy it now of $50, which sold. Now he's doing them buy it now at $75.
Here's a picture of my Voodoo card with the box. It's really beat up though. Didn't notice it was a Voodoo Banshee until now.

And here's a AMD K6-2. I got it off a broken laptop. I assume the 2 is nothing special right?

GPU box art seems to be stuck in time. It's always the same, plastered with the most uninspired stock 3D model you can think of.
Oh yes, I loved 3dfx back in the day. In my first computer my first upgrade was an Orchid Righteous 3d 4mb or 8mb (I forget) 3dfx 1 passthrough card. My first game that used it was Turok, which was the same as the N64 game but looked much better while not really pushing the card. Then I got Wing Commander Prophecy, which was stunning in Glide mode.
I replaced it with a 16 MB Banshee, which had a lot of bad press at the time but was still an excellent card. I kept that thing for a long time. Later I would be selling computers, and I loved how throwing a Voodoo 3 would turn a POS computer into a gaming powerhouse.
If you think the 32x was madness, at one point I had a pci video card for 2d, a 3dfx card with passthrough cable, and a Dxr2 DVD decoder card, also with passthrough. What an awesome mess.

forced it to run under WinXP in my Athlon64 PC, next to the Radeon X850XT : D Needed to
install an extra cooler in the side of the case though.
A question for the Voodoo-SLI guys. How are you able to run a VoodooČ SLI setup without
any cooling on the cards? From what I've seen, my Voodoo won't even run in an open
case, in an old PC with on-board graphics without any heat sources at all.
Or is the Voodoo 1 just that sensitive to heat and the second one will run just fine, given
that it is not broken like mine?
Was yours overclocked? or Overclocked now? The card might have been damaged.
I have a "The Card Cooler" as it was know back in the day. Its bascially 2 brackets that hold 2 80mm fans...when I bought mine I had 2 options for fans, the 4-pin molex had 2 5000rpm fans, or the 3-pin headers that I think was around 3000rpm. Noisy bastards!!! I've since swapped mine out and added some memory heatsinks to my Voodoo 2 Sli setup.
Here is a pic of my Voodoo 2 Sli system, you can see I'm only using 1 80mm fan for "the card cooler"
Heres the specs as I remember them (been awhile since I built it)
1GHz Coppermine P3 Socket 370
Soyo Mobo SY-7VCA(2)
768MB PC133 SDRam
Monster Viper V770 32MB (TNT2, non-Ultra) AGP 4x (once I found the jumpers)
Monster Voodoo II 3DFX (SLI'ed) @95MHz
10GB Seagate HDD
40GB WD HDD
Samsung 52x CD-RW w/8MB buffer (up from 2MB usual)
Pioneer 16x DVD ROM
Future Power 400W PSU
10/100 NIC card (I think D-link)
And now on the way a SoundBlaster 64AWE Gold (untested) yay!
EDIT: before you guys ask, its a modified heatsink, I think it was the stock higher end P3 Heatsink, I had to grind some of it down and tape the caps off so it wouldn't short out. Last time I ran the system (its been awhile) I got 19c idle!!! The HS was cold to the touch!
