Default Has anyone been playing Atlantica Online lately?

I just got back into AO myself(aftrer a fairly long break). Right now I'm leviling(just one more lv until I unlock a new merc class, and I'm also trying to get a new merc upto a respectable lv(and in between, I'm making tons of Gold).

    What are you upto?

I want to try this game, it actually looks pretty neat. Since you are pretty well versed in turn based RPG's, what are your general thoughts about the game?

Short answer: Over all, It's amazing(There's nothing else like this, and there is a lot of ways to customize your party). Not very helpful, I know lol, so I'll move to a less general response.

The one thing you need to keep in mind, is the game Isn't about "char" customization(like pretty much every MMO ever made), It's about "party" customization, so always keep that in the back of your mind.

You pick 1 main type(hero class that emulates every D class merc, except gets to learn a special skill for it being a hero char)

There's 29 different mercs(classes/party members) to form youy party, and including the hero char, you can have upto a 9 person party.

The game is Quest driven, however monster give full xp as well(the kind of xp, you would get in non quest driven MMO), with the exception of support type party members(they get an xp penalty). Questing never feels like a dag in this game, the quests are varied, give awesome rewards, and there's easy short quests mixed in with the longer quests, even at the higher levels.

The equipment, while simple(and not really customizeable), you'll be changing often(most of which you'll find, and the equipment you'll be buying from other players, is pretty cheap). The Hero char, unlike any of the merc char can equip special items(Mount, Clothing, Decoration and a hat. Hat, and Helm are completely separate). The Hat, and clothing, are more or lestt just for looks, but they all do give +50 VIT). The mounts however is a huge addition to the hero char(They give massive all around stat boosts, and they increase walking speed on the map. Also they can pass monsters without getting into battle easier, as long as you don't run dirrectly into an enemy, you'll probally not get into battle). Decorations, tend to always give 500 DEF(nomatter which decoration you have, and they tend to give other stats, just nowhere near as high/versatile as mounts, plus they don't increase walking speed).

The game is a compendium of a ton of systems that most games either don't have or don't work that good in other games, yet somehow works 100% flawlessly in this game.

There's a in game database covering every single thing you could ever hope for, and It's even interactive for crying out loud(example: you want to find a NPC, open up the database to find the NPC, then click automove to NPC in that NPC's entry, you will automatically walk to where that NPC is).

Speaking of auto move, It's the most perfect auto move system in the history of gaming period(it never gets hooked on walls or even stairs, and the only places in the game, that I ever encountered a flaw, is in the "Shadow Dungeons", which are very rare types of dungeons anyway), not to mention your quest log is also hooked up to the auto move feature(you just need to click the auto move button with the quest selected, and you'll walk to where you need to go, for that quest).

There's an extensive crafting system(a pain early on, so unless you are told to craft a Quest item, I suggesting waiting until much later to get involved with that).

The Guild system is amazing in the game as well(there too many things to list, and It's a bit confusing not seeing it your self, but I strongly suggest getting in a guild at some time.

Um party system, yes despite having a party of upto 9 car, you can party with other players, It's sick(and you do get bonus xp for doing such), however the enemy can do such as well(except all the enemy has to do is walk into you, and it will enter the battle field/screen, where players have to creat a party like most MMOs, so KSing Isn't even possible in this game, which is good).

The game is truly free to play(with no nerfs if you don't use the cash shop), however there is a cash shop, in it they sell tons of things, on paper it looks very expensive, compared to other games, however the things you would want the most(the things you may actually need) are super cheat(5$ will buy a perm merc room lic, so you can store mercs/change your party formating without needing to otherwire fire a leveled merc. Likewise 5$ would also buy a perm inventory extention lic, so the two most versatile items in the game are respectably cheap). Also most(if not every) cash shop item can be sold in game, thus allowing you to not ever use the cash shop, if you are tight on money).

The interface looks very complex(with all the amazing features, I doubt anyone could come up with a better layout), however It's pretty easy to learn how to navigate, also the game is super noob friendly(the first 6-10 or so quests, will teach you a lot, and how to do stuff/how everything works).

I could tell you more, but it would take me days to explain everything, that the game would beable to explain a lot faster. However this should give you an idea on the game. It's an amazing game, and super unique as well, so yea you should try it.

Note: The one bad thing is, it requires a pretty powerful gaming grade PC for it to run smoothly, but if you have one, you're set. Also the game has the most expansive word(and item database) ever, therefore it will take a while to DL, and install(The first time you patch, to make the client upto date, takes like 30m as well), so do it when you have a bunch of time(when you're not using the PC for anything else).

Cool, I'll check it out. Thanks. Been playing Vindictus for my MMO fix, but that is more like PSO or Monster Hunter than anything. I either like full "action" rpg's, or turn based, and have never been a fan of the active style of WoW or any other modern MMO. So this looks a bit different, and worth trying out.
