    Default Homestarrunner.com Back from Hiatus

I don't know if anyone really watches these guys except for the one guy with the HR avatar, but this is certain to brighten someone's day.

Yes, they finally made a new toon. This one is actually a bit more "suggestive." Suggestive meaning 9 year olds shouldn't watch it until they aren't 9 anymore.

After watching that I kinda wish they'd stayed on hiatus. Hard to see what that site has become, when I remember how funny it used to be.

I literally grew up on this site, found it when I was 12, when they only updated like 3 times a year. Then I watched it grow and get more fans, and be updated every week. It peaked around '05-06, and if the Brothers Chaps had decided to fully market it (Shirts in stores and not just online, TV show) they'd be millionaires, but instead they kept it on the site, and now it's almost an empty shell.

I honestly haven't followed it like I used too, but I used to be an addict.

Yeah, this was pretty damn funny five years ago. My favorites were the kids book (Some people are about to be run over, Frankie has about five seconds) and the one where the computer virus fucks up everyone in the town. I still laugh at those ones. Homsar was comedic gold. That Peasant's Quest game was pretty cool/funny too.

Agreed, at one point i was waaaay into it and then it got less and less funny,
I remember at one time i was gonna order their dvd's, but they were all like "NO PAYPAL"
well for a euro guy like me without a credit card that meant "no dvd's".

Sure these days they accept paypal, but with some better marketing they could have become much bigger.

the whole "oops became a daddy" hiatus also didn't help, understandable.. but didn't help.

Same. Specifically my sophomore year of high school, I was on the site every day.

Maybe I'll check this out later, if only to take a little trip down memory lane. My favorite bit was always the Strongbad E-mails.

Don't know if I'd call it an "oops". They're all (They as in the two brothers and Missy) in their mid 30's now and I'm sure they know their heyday has come and gone. The characters are becoming parodies of themselves, and things just aren't as funny.

Although, when they tried singing the Decemberween song to Strong Sad, and had to say "Non-specific-mouth-wash-terine", then a lawyer tries to walk in with papers, and Homestar shoo's him away with his stick, that was funny. And when Marzipan walked she just had a pile of snow bunch up in front of her because she has no legs. That was funny too.

It was a part of my middle/high school life, but I don't mind it staying their.

Well I didn't mean it like "oops" I just tried to phrase it in a way that explained my feelings,
when i learned that they had put the site on hiatus because of the baby thing.

Really shows that to them it was nothing more then a side project,
and that it made them some money was just an added benefit.

commendable in a money grubbing society such as ours, but sad for the fans.

Can't say i would like it to stay in the highschool days, for one i had already graduated when HSR started.

For a few years it really WAS their whole lives. It grew from a side project to a job, but I think they knew that it wouldn't last forever. They'd run out of good jokes soon enough, and then look like hacks.

It's like how Garfield has been around since the 70's, but now it's just a legacy strip that supports every other marketed thing under the sun. Garfield feels just like a corporate logo now instead of a comic strip character. It'd be fine if the comic was still funny, but it rarely is anymore.

I'd rather have a site full of nearly every cartoon being great (like HR is now) instead of a corporate flash site that's full of bad jokes because they need to keep churning them out. Even the SBEmails got weak after awhile because they were expected by fans to pop them out every Monday.

One of the last emails they did pretty much was them explaining that they're out of material, but under the guise of some other characters they made up out of themselves.

"We take a half-written bad joke, and trying to find a way to shoehorn it into an email...WHAT MORE DO YOU PEOPLE WANT?!"

I'm paraphrasing, but it explains a lot.

I really loved the Homestar site up until they started to run out of ideas; it made the crappy years of tv cartoons that aired alongside it more bearable (I'm looking at YOU, every Spongebob that came out after the movie!)

I don't think we'll be seeing too much more out of ol' Homestar. I suppose it's just as well though; the next big thing will just come along and we'll be laughing once more. On that vein, I urge anybody who still watches cartoons on here to check out Adventure Time if you somehow haven't already. Random creepy hilarity to the max!

Adventure Time is pretty awesome, from what I've seen, but sometimes they're just trying WAY to hard to be "LOL SOE RANDOM AND CREEPY FOR KEEDS LAWL".

And when I can, the last couple seasons of Spongebob have been entertaining as hell, just for the pure craziness. It's obvious they're just sitting in a room with a drawing board, yelling out any thought they have, and drawing it. They know they'll get away with anything because it's like Nickelodeon's version of Family Guy.

Oh, Spongebob... I haven't been able to take that show seriously since the movie. Nickelodeon in general disappoints these days. Have you seen this Tuff Puppy crap they're pushing now? When I saw it I just thought of the Wacky Deli episode of Rocko, with Ralph being forced to create a show he didn't want to because of his contract. I wouldn't be surprised if the next episode is an 11 minute freeze on a jar of mayo
