    Default Warped CD?

Some of my games, when I put them in my X'Eye, it totally sounds like it's warped or something as it's spinning around. What I mean is that it makes a rotational sound like a part of the cd is scraping on something as it goes around, but only in a certain spot. Only happens on some games, and not others. And even if it makes that noise it still seems to work properly.

All I can think that it may be is maybe a warped CD? When I lay it down, it looks flat so I am not sure. Has anyone else ever come across this noise?

NO such thing as a warped CD. CD isn't made of vinyl.

It sounds like the CD hub is sitting a tiny bit too low and letting the disc rub against the casing. On the Sega CDs and Saturns you can pull the hub up a millimeter with your fingers to fix it, but I don't know about the X'eye.

X'eye uses same assembly as Saturn does, so the trick still applies

Not warped so much as not balanced perfectly. That gives the disc a little wobble. It's usually no big deal, but it makes a lot of noise. I've got plenty of DVD movies that are that way. Mostly cheap discs from Walmart's $5 rack.

OK I will try to tweak it up a tad and see what happens. What throws me off is that it only happens on a very few amount of games.

So if the X'Eye uses the same components as the Saturn, does that mean you can swap out the whole assembly if the laser goes bad?

OK, I tried tweaking the hub up a bit, but it's attached to the whole laser assembly, and I can see that's where it's rubbing. Luckily, it's only rubbing on the inner part of the CD where it pretty much goes on the hub, and not on the disc itself. I tweaked it, and it still makes the noise on that particular game (Sonic CD). I did notice that if I shut the lid a bit lighter it doesn't make the sound, so I wonder if the lid is pushing down too hard on the CD. I am thinking about slightly filing away the plastic where it's rubbing to see if that remedies it. It's just a slight annoyance.

The hub will actually slide on its metal shaft if you pull it hard enough. The trick is to brace it with your fingers so it only moves about 1mm.

Yeah, I had that problem with my first copy of Saturn Doom. I think I went through four of KMart's copies of the game, before I brought it from somewhere else. I think it shops leave disc-based games under heat, like lights in a cabinet for instance, it can effect the disc and 'warp' or unbalance it.

Well I gave the hub a little pull and the noise went away. Purrrs like a kitten now. When the sled moves back and forth it's much quieter now too, I lubricated the sled assembly. Can barely even hear it running anymore.

What did you lubricate it with? Hopefully nothing petroleum based like WD-40.

Silicone lube is the only way to go with plastic and rubber components.
    It is finished!

Actually, I used automotive Anti-Seize. Never had a problem with that stuff after years and years of working in the automotive industry. Not sure what it's made out of, but it's a pretty good lubricate and protectant. And it seems to hold it's form for a long time too. Not to mention, I've used it on spark plug threads many many times with heat up to who knows how many hundreds of degrees, and it always stays pliable. I've also used it n 4X4 hub locks and it seems to work great (and those are usually made of plastic). So I dunno if it's the right or wrong stuff or not, but it if anyone thinks I screwed up let me know and I will re-evaluate it.

I just brushed a tad bit on the moving components of the sled assembly.
