1. 6 Button Pad (preferably 2)
2. TurboGrafx CD system
3. US Arcade Card 3.0
1. You need an adapter from PC Engine to TG16 controllers for this. No US 6 button controllers were made, and the connectors are different from a PCE to TG16.
2. The CD-Rom systems suffers from a failing gear that is near impossible to replace, so make sure it is working great before you buy.
3. A US SYSTEM 3.0 card is very expensive. The JPN version can be had for about $20, and the JPN ARCADE CARD PRO is about $50 which is the System 3.0 card and the Arcade card in 1 for CD-Rom Systems, the JPN Arcade Card Duo is almost the same but for Duo/Duo-R/RX systems that already have the extra ram.
If you want to play JPN games on your TG16, you need to region mod it. I sell some chips to do it. http://www.pcenginefx.com/forums/index.php?topic=9001.0
Install can be seen here, but my pinout is different.
Cool, thanks for the info! I always knew getting into TG collecting could be pricey and tough, but I never really looked into it. SFII aside, were there any other reasons to owning a 6 button controller? Also, if I had the US SYSTEM card, would it be able to play JP games that require it, and vice versa? I hear region modding the system is easy enough, but getting a higher video out without using the AV booster is tough, since it requires you tapping into the behemoth of a AV port in the back.
Thanks for your help!
Hall: sf2 is the only game I know that uses the 6 button pad. Also, you can swap cables on Turbo/pce pads. Open the pad up with a screwdriver, unplug the harness at the end of the cable, plug in cable from the other pad. I bought a few new TG16 controllers that I use with my PCE Duo this way. However, SF2 wasn't released in the US.
Also, CD games are region free, if you can find a US arcade card (I thought arcade cards were Jap only, but am probably wrong) then the Japanese arcade cd games should work.
An expensive alternative for playing Japanese games on a US system is the Neoflash cart, you can put Japanese roms in TG16 mode and they will play. You can't make it emulate an Arcade Card, however.
Edit: If you have the cash, you may as well buy a Japanese Duo. It's not much more than a US cd system, and with the Duo and US TG16 you could play anything.

The Duo is really expensive even by itself.
I've been hunting just for the CD addon for my TG-16, and I'd prolly be happy with just the system 2.0 card, but can't even find it, and every time I bid on one on eBay, I get outbid. I usually bid a good amount too, usually between 50 to 80 bucks.
