Default Sega CD Fighting Game Thread

I posted this to compliment the Genesis fighting game thread.

    I guess I'll start:

Eternal Champions: Challenge From the Dark Side. I'm good at this game while playing as both Hooter and Blast.Though I think I kick more ass as Hooter.
See, I can pretty much rape most CPU opponents as Hooter. That's Champion mode I'm playing on too btw. It gives you unlimited continues at the cost of going back two fighters if you lose, just like the original EC game.

Edit: Damn it, this is getting rediculous. I came here to talk to other Eternal Champions fans and so far, I've been getting the cold shoulder from 90% of them. I don't have time to sit around and see if I can strike up a conversation or not. I'm starting to feel like I'm not welcome here for whatever the reason.

I sent you a friend request. I bought EC cart version when it first came out, but a year or two ago I got the cd version. The cd version is outstanding, I try to play it a couple times a week. The only character I am good with is Ramses, but I can pretty much abuse the computer on any difficulty with him. I want to get better with the other characters. Ive tried to get my friends to play this game but I think the learning curve is a little intimidating to some, even fighting game fans. The game is very deep in terms of mastering the moves and when to use which move. I am interested in what you said in another thread about making the ill fated sequel with the help of the game's creator. I would like to hear any details you have about how you plan to release the sequel. Was the sequel supposed to be for saturn? I'm actually planning on putting a EC graphic on my Hori real arcade pro 3 SA for PS3.

No dude, you are welcome here. In fact, I gave you Rep for one of your posts regarding the Unofficial EC3 that you're working on.

As far as fighting games go on SCD I would have to agree with you about EC:CftDS being my favorite. I wanted MK CD to be good, but compared to the Cart version it is mediocre. The only thing MK CD has over the Cart version is of course the CD Audio and a extra frames of animation. I don't count the "Music Video" because I usually skip over it. The loading times aren't so great either. It could've been MUCH better considering they had the CD media to work with(650MB worth of space to work with). But this is Probe we're talking about. LOL

But back on to EC, I love it. The Character roster is great and the hidden characters are even better. IMO EC is alot more violent than the MK games at the time. Which is a good thing. Another added bonus to the gore-fest was the Cine-kills. I was always amazed with those back in the day. After all this talk of EC it seems I need to dust off my copy of EC:CftDS and see if I still got it!

I don't. I played it a little bit the other day and I am russstyyy. The game's engine is definitely unforgiving, and getting a cinekill is a bitch if you don't remember how. I might play through it some more this week and see if I don't improve.

There are way too many fighting games for the Sega CD. More fighting games than the Neo Geo! But the only one anybody needs is Black Hole Assault (which is about anal rape).

Is there any list of all the fighting games on the platform?

I remember only MK, Samurai Shodown, and FF Special.

This is not official. That said, the fighting games for SCD are Fatal Fury Special, Samurai Showdown, Final Fight, Eternal Champions, Mortal Combat, Burning Fist (homebrew), Brutal Paws of Fury, Black Hole Assault, Revengers of Vengeance, Three Ninja's Kick Back and Spiderman v Kingpin have fighting sequences in them but more likely considered a platform type game, finally Rage in the Cage. I may have missed some, but that is a good start. The best game out of the group IMO is without a doubt Final Fight. Hope this helped, tlh

Heavy Nova on SCD? I am not sure about that? Was Heavy Nova released on SCD? If so my collection is not complete, or do you mean Nova Storm? Hmm...

Oh man, I LOVED the Sega CD version of Eternal Champions. The combo system was so incredibly broken, but in a good way... figuring out all the ridiculous infinite combos was a blast. Plus there were so many crazy unlockable characters, the roster was HUGE!

I had the game back in the days before the interwebs were so accessible, so I had to figure out all the fatalities on my own. Needless to say, it kept me busy for a LOOOONG time.

I also have a weird affinity for Revengers of Vengeance, but for the life of me I don't know why. It's not a good game.

I can't remember if I received your friend request or not. Was it on youtube? If so I may have declined because I wasn't sure if you were human or not since I had a lot of bots bugging me around this time. So I apologize if I declined your request. Feel free to send it again if I did.

Yes, the original version was supposed to be for Saturn. Its actually going to be a freeware title. Mike's not helping with the actual engine, he's just helping with the info needed to create the game. I want to make it very close to what it was originally planned to be.

Mike offered to host a download to the fangame, if I complete it, on his site. He no longer owns the rights to the franchise but he owns the rights to the franchise name. In fact, he owns the domain name eternalchampions.com, which just redirects to his site.

Unfortunately, I'm having to do everything myself. I'm still ripping sprites and am currently working on Riptide. As for the Infernals and Chaos EC, I would need some good custom spriters.

If you know how to use him, the secret character, Hooter is probably the easiest character to land Cinekills with. I also mastered playing as him fairly quickly compared to the other character I'm good with, Blast.

Hooter scored 1 Overkill and two Cinekills in this video. This is on Champion mode btw.

I love your enthusiasm for this franchise, reminds me of my eternal champions phase a couple years back.

I just burnt challenge from the dark side last night from my newly acquired model two and the only character I've been picking is blade. Hes the definition of cool right next to trident.

    Your results may vary.

(edit: also, you may want to look at some of the mugen spriters at imt or scruffydragon. there are a few talented individuals who can match ec's grainy shading style.)

Yeah, Blade's pretty awesome. He's been tweaked a bit since the first EC. Some of his attacks have been changed, others polished. His CPU version is programmed to actually cheat.

Though, out of all the characters, MidKnight has changed the most and Larcen has changed the least. MidKnight's animations for his physical attacks were completely redone. Supposedly because he was much lower tier than some of the other characters. Larcen seems to be pretty much the same, even his taunt sounds the same. The only new thing is his Vendetta really.

Speaking of which, Mike Latham told me that Shadow and Larcen were supposed to be the key nexus for the plot of Eternal Champions 3. Though Thanatos, Hooter, Xavier, and Chaos Eternal Champion had a connected story as well. Chaos EC took Thanatos' job as death, Hooter was Thanatos' human form's familiar and Xavier became Hooter's familiar.
