Sonic 4, Success or Fail?

They decided to hate it from the first screenshot.

If they didn't want me to hate it from first screenshot, they shouldn't have used such an ugly graphical style.

But seriously, I gave the game a fair shake. It's mediocre at best, with terrible physics, poor level designs, and just plain unremarkable gameplay. It doesn't stack up to the classic games, nor does it provide any competition to the other games in the modern day retro renaissance. What reason do I have for liking this game?

I agree in that post. Sadly, i was too quick to judge when i was playing Sonic 4. I only played threw the first few levels and so far i thought it was pretty solid, but right after about the first few levels, the game takes a shit. Horrible level design thats out to kill you ( like Sonic 2 from Game Gear ), the jumping starts to have its own mind and hardly works, and it just becomes almost like, " go away Sonic fans, we tricked you into our money scheme". Average to expect from SEGA's Sonic Team nowadays. I'm sorry for saying that this game was good at my original post, I only played through the first few levels.

This game was on offer for £5 on the Playstation store so i bought and it is downloading now, for that money it doesn't have to be that good to be worth it but i will share my opinion tomorrow.

Sonic 4 Episode I is FAIL. not even a debate,

it was basically SEGA's cheap way of introducing Sonic Rush for home consoles and a iphone.



I'm afraid we'll never see a 2D sonic game like the classics unless they get all 3 original Sonic Team founders together on working a real remake and not the new generation who's only experience is putting out crap 2D handheld Sonic games.

I'm afraid that's never gonna happen sadly. Thats the whole reason why most of us are playing oldschool games, to play games that were actually good ( or relive our good memory's of nostalgia ). Now we get Shitbox, Ass-station 3 and Gay-Wii

Sonic 4 was absolutely terrible. The physics DESTROYED the gameplay. It would have been better off not being made IMO. Just leave the classics alone!

So many people on this board had their minds made up long before the release. They decided to hate it from the first screenshot. It's a retro board, though, whaddya expect?

You kidding? I was ecstatic when it was announced and screenshots were released. Some of us are just more honest than others... I'm not afraid to denounce modern iterations of childhood favorites. Star Wars Episode 3 sucked and so does Sonic 4. My near 20 years of playing the series makes me qualified to make that statement.

I personally liked the game overall, but the butchering of the physics was a huge slap in the face to all who played the originals. I consider it a slightly above average game.

if they would not have called it Sonic4 and had a different protagonist, I would have liked it... but this is supposed to be a sonic game, and while it is visually, the most basic gameplay mechanics certainly aren't. Nearly all of the games are done by Dimps, they managed to do quite good GBA games, and quite okay DS games... why could not they have done same on Sonic4 !?
